In an epic ending to a magnificent ballgame Tommy Bell of the Menlo Park Legends (New Mexico State) crushed a walk-off three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning off the left-field scoreboard and brought the entire stadium crowd to its feet as the CCL North All-Stars defeated the CCL South All-Stars 7-4 at the MLB Urban Youth Academy tonight. Bell’s feat sparked a massive celebration at home plate by the North’s players and put a topper on a night highlighted by five home runs, great defensive plays and, oh, a live national television audience.

The ninth-inning dramatics, broadcast nationwide by Fox Sports, came on the heels of the CCL South taking a 4-3 lead in the top half of the inning on an clutch RBI-single by Cody Ramer (Conejo Oaks and Arizona), who, at the moment of his hit immediately challenged Jeremy Montalbano for the Most Valuable Player honors of the game. Montalbano (Santa Barbara Foresters and Tulane) had tallied three hits on the night, including hitting a mammoth home run OVER the scoreboard in left. But when Bell hit his homerun OFF the scoreboard with two runners on and two outs to win the game, the MVP honor was his.

Check back for more details on the game including photos as they come available. We wanted to get this story out as soon as possible (even at the 2:45am posting time) because games like this don’t come along that often, and moments like the one Bell experienced, rarely come in a lifetime. Great, great baseball!
