Barons Blank Blues, Saints Stun Riptide in Saturday CCL Slate

The Arroyo Seco Saints came through with three runs in the ninth inning to edge the Orange County Riptide, while the Walnut Creek Crawdads jumped ahead early in a win over the Sonoma Stompers. Elsewhere, the Menlo Park Legends defeated the San Francisco Seagulls, and the Academy Barons built a commanding lead over the San Luis Obispo Blues.

Arroyo Seco Saints 7, Orange County Riptide 6

The Arroyo Seco Saints erased a late deficit with three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Orange County Riptide, 7-6.

Arroyo Seco struck first in the opening inning when Canon King singled to bring home Evan Reiter and Brayden Flores, giving the Saints a 2-0 lead. Orange County answered in the fourth, as Ian Nguyen doubled in three runs to put the Riptide ahead, 3-2.

The Riptide continued to build their lead with a run in the fifth, another in the sixth and one more in the eighth, taking a 6-4 advantage into the ninth. But the Saints mounted one final rally. Brody Chyr singled to center field to score Dylan Immel and Owen Mangini, tying the game at 6-6. Flores followed with an RBI single to bring home Chyr and put Arroyo Seco back in front.

The Saints held Orange County scoreless in the bottom of the ninth to complete the comeback.

Menlo Park Legends 7, San Francisco Seagulls 3

The Menlo Park Legends used a strong start to defeat the San Francisco Seagulls, 7-3.

Menlo Park opened the scoring in the first inning when Ryan Duron lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Ryder Kelly. The Legends added three more runs in the second, highlighted by Ethan Jackson's two-run single, before scoring twice more in the third. Duron homered in the inning, and Isaac Fendel added an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 6-0.

San Francisco got on the board in the fifth with three runs. George Schmitt drove in a run on a groundout before Jake Brewer singled to bring home another, with a third run scoring on an error.

Menlo Park added insurance in the seventh when Jackson doubled to center field to score Fendel, giving the Legends a four-run cushion. The Legends finished with seven runs on 10 hits, while the Seagulls totaled three runs on seven hits.

Walnut Creek Crawdads 9, Sonoma Stompers 4

The Walnut Creek Crawdads jumped ahead early and never looked back, defeating the Sonoma Stompers, 9-4.

Walnut Creek scored three runs in the first inning without needing a big swing. Kam Taylor and Brandon Clizbe each drew bases-loaded walks before Shane Aldridge was hit by a pitch to bring home another run. Clizbe added another bases-loaded walk in the second to make it 4-0.

The Crawdads continued to build their lead in the third and fourth innings. Daniel Polasek and Aidan Robles each drove in runs in the third, while Aldridge doubled in a run and Lucas Carlisle followed with an RBI single in the fourth to extend the lead to 8-0.

Sonoma got on the board in the sixth and added two more runs in the seventh, but Walnut Creek added another run in the eighth on Polasek's RBI groundout. The Stompers scored once more in the bottom half, but the Crawdads closed out the win.

Walnut Creek finished with nine runs on 10 hits, while Sonoma scored four runs on six hits.

Academy Barons 15, San Luis Obispo Blues 0

The Academy Barons put together one of the most dominant performances of the night, shutting out the San Luis Obispo Blues, 15-0.

Academy set the tone early with three runs in the first inning, powered by Nik Sanders' three-run home run. The Barons added another run in the third when Isaac Ocampo lifted a sacrifice fly to score David Aguirre.

The game broke open in the seventh. Bryce Morrison doubled in two runs, and the Barons continued to capitalize on walks, hit batters and San Luis Obispo defensive miscues. Jason Del Villar and Sanders each drove in runs during the inning, while Aguirre added an RBI single as Academy scored eight times to build a 12-0 lead.

The Barons added three more runs in the eighth, with Eiji Sawamura and Del Villar each drawing bases-loaded walks before another run scored on an error.

Academy finished with 15 runs on 15 hits, while San Luis Obispo was held to three hits.
