Academy Barons 0, US Collegiate National Team 5

| July 1, 2016

June 30, 2016 Anaheim, CA The Academy Barons traveled to Angels Stadium in Anaheim tonight to play the US Collegiate National Team in the third of five exhibition games the US team is playing against the CCL. The Barons were held scoreless by the dominant pitching of the country's top amateur arms, managing four hits in a 5-0 loss. The National Team's pitchers, as they have in the previous two games against the Santa Barbara Foresters Tuesday and Wednesday are in the process of showing the National Team's coaching staff they are ready to be part of the rotation that the squad will take to international competitions against Taiwan, Japan and Cuba. Tonight the Barons faced Alex Faedo (Florida), Ricky Tyler Thomas (Fresno State), Tyler Johnson (South Carolina), Luis Gonzalez (New Mexico) and Glenn Otto (Rice and a CCL alum of the 2015 Foresters). Combined, the five National Team pitchers struck out 12 Barons and issued no walks. Reggie Southall recorded the Barons' first base hit, a single with two in the fourth, but, after he stole second base, he was left stranded in scoring position. Cody Den Beste (Prairie View A&M) had a leadoff single in the fourth inning, but he was later erased on a groundball double play. Sam Shaikin and Keyon Allen (UNLV) had the two other Barons hits but neither threatened to score. On the mound, the Barons gave nine different pitchers an inning each to face the country's best hitters. As a group, the nine pitchers allowed the five runs on 12 hits, and combined for six strikeouts and five walks. Featured Image077 Featured Image088
