Blues Overcome 8-run Deficit in Last Two ABs; Menlo Park’s Four HR Lead to Opening Win

June 4, 2016 San Luis Obispo, CA Trailing 9-1 going into the bottom half of the seventh inning the San Luis Obispo Blues erupted for 6 runs in the seventh and then added five more in the eighth to take the second contest of a three-game series against the visiting Walnut Creek Crawdads 12-9. After the first two batters in the seventh inning failed to get on, the Blues strung together four consecutive hits, followed by three straight walks, then one more hit to score six runs and get within striking distance. Then, in the bottom of the eight, the Blues offense batted-around again, scoring five runs and securing the win. Not to be lost in the offensive outburst was the relief pitching of Justin Goosen-Brown, who pitched the final 4 2/3 innings for the Blues to pick up the win, allowing only 1 hit while striking out eight. The same two teams meet in the series finale tomorrow at 1pm. See the boxscore/recap here. Also today: Palm Springs, CA Jaiden France (Grambling St) was the man tonight for the SoCal Catch, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning to break an 8-8 tie against the Palm Springs Power and, when the Power threatened to erase that extra-inning lead, France came into the game to pitch mid-inning with two runners on and no outs and retired three of the four batters he faced to pick up the save in an 10-9 win. Redwood City, CA The Menlo Park Legends opened their 2016 season with their bats red hot, posting 12 hits, including home runs by Chandler Bengston (Columbia), Cristopher Castillo (De Anza JC), Turner Bishop (Old Dominion), and Philip Caulfield (LMU), in a 10-4 win over the visiting San Mateo Rounders at Canada College.
