August 14, 2017 The CCL announced its 2017 All-League Team today and Dominic Fletcher (Arkansas) the center fielder for the league champion Orange County Riptide was named the league's Most Valuable Player, and Chase Gardner, the left-handed pitcher on his way to start his DI career at UConn and the ace on the league runner-up Healdsburg Prune Packers pitching staff, was named the Most Valuable Pitcher. Fletcher posted a .385 average in league play, hitting 6 HR and driving in 27 runs in 26 games, and shined when it counted, recording multiple-hit games in each of the Riptide's four playoff games. Gardner, who was the marquee starting pitcher of the televised CCL All-Star game July 12, finished league play with a 4-0 record, striking out 38 batters in 31 innings while posting a 1.42 ERA, and also starred in the playoffs, posting a dominate nine strikeout, six inning performance to lead Healdsburg to an opening round playoff win. Gardner edged out Tanner Lawson, a left-handed pitcher from St. Edwards who pitched for the Santa Barbara Foresters, for the top pitching honors. Lawson led the league with a 0.57 ERA, also posted a 4-0 record, and struck out 34 batters with only six walks in 31 innings.
