San Luis Obispo, CA
Hayden Jorgenson (Azusa Pacific), Tucker Thomason (Fresno CC) and Chad Boudreaux (East Texas Baptist) combined to pitch a six-hit shutout, and the Southern California Catch offense scratched out two runs on six hits of their own to beat the San Luis Obispo Blues 2-0 today at Sinsheimer Park. The trio of Catch pitchers threw five one-two-three innings, allowed only one extra base hit, a double by Adam Fogel (Hawaii), and only two walks. Of the nine batters to reach base, three were erased on the bases by either a double-play or fielder’s choice, including a rally quashing double-play in the ninth inning when Fogel led off with a single but was immediately forced out at second on the front end of a 6-4-3 turn by the Catch infield. The Blues threatened to score in the fifth inning, putting a runner in scoring position with one out, but Jorgenson escaped unscathed by getting a flyball out for the second out and, after Drew Judson (Hendrix) singled to load the bases, got the last out on a groundball. With Fogel’s one-out double off Thomason, who entered the game in relief, San Luis Obispo also had a runner in scoring position in the sixth inning, but Boudreaux, who came into the inning to relieve after Thomason walked Jeremy Jess (Pomona-Pitzer) to put two runners on, induced an inning-ending double-play to escape damage. Boudreaux would go on to record 12 outs in a row, with the help of the two double-plays, to earn the save. San Luis Obispo pitchers Marco Murillo (Campbellsville), who started and notched seven strikeouts in five and two-thirds innings, Andy Garretson (Cal St San Marcos) and Jack Cosca (Cal) were almost as effective as their Catch counterparts, allowing only one extra-base hit, a double to Jonathan Ducoff (UC Irvine), and erased two runners on the bases. Only the sixth inning would prove problematic, as a two-base error put the leadoff hitter aboard, the second of two singles in the game by Shay Whitcomb (UC San Diego) put runners on the corners, Steven Garrett (Azusa Pacific) advanced both runners one base with an RBI-groundout and Ducoff drove in the second run with a two-out single.

The first three Long Beach Legends hitters of the game hit two singles and a double to score two runs against the Academy Barons today before an out was recorded, and then the first three hitters of the fourth inning similarly recorded three in a row, only this time the third hit was a Daniel Zimmerman (Michigan) three-run home run that put the Legends up for good as Long Beach posted a 9-6 victory at the MLB Urban Youth Academy. Zimmerman’s blast, which plated Richie O’Reilly (Georgetown) and Reese Berberet (Long Beach CC), was part of a four-run fourth inning that gave Long Beach a 6-2 lead after the Barons tied the score 2-2 in the bottom of the first on run-scoring singles by Solomon Bates (USC) and Randy Rubio (Marymount-NAIA). Bates and Rubio would figure in the Barons’ scoring twice more in the game. In the sixth inning, Bates led off with a double, Rubio singled and Bates scored on a Jonah Dean-Hargroves (Jackson St) single to trim the Legends lead to 6-3, and in the bottom of the ninth, Bates would score on a two-run single by Rubio, and Dean-Hargroves then singled Rubio home, but that is all the Barons would get. Bates, Rubio and Dean-Hargroves all finished with a game-high three hits. Long Beach finished with three runs of their own in the ninth inning, loading the bases with one out and, after a strikeout, scored three times with two outs, once on a walk and twice more on an two-run single by Luke DeVenney (Eastern Michigan).

Santa Barbara, CA
Lucas Halstead (Pacific) hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game and the Neptune Beach Pearl manufactured two runs without the benefit of a hit in the top of the tenth to beat the Santa Barbara Foresters 5-4 today at Pershing Park. Halstead’s homer, his second in league play this summer, followed a leadoff walk to start the ninth inning by James Free II (Pacific), and tied the scrore at 3-3, the second time he had tied the score with an RBI, having driven in Jordan Williams (Diablo Valley), who had singled, with a single of his own in the sixth inning to tie the score at 1-1. Evan Lee (Arkansas), who figured in each of the Foresters runs in the game, came in from his position in the outfield to pitch the rest of the ninth inning for Santa Barbara after Halstead’s home run and promptly retired three hitters, but when Lee went back to the outfield for the tenth, Neptune Beach put their leadoff hitter on with a walk, put runners on the corners with an error and, after a popout and an intentional walk loaded the bases with one out, scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch and an insurance run on a fielder’s choice to make the score 5-3 without getting a hit. The insurance run proved vital as Steven Coe (UC San Diego) led off the bottom of the tenth inning with a single, moved to second on a one-out single by Chandler Bengston (Columbia) and, after a walk loaded the bases and Neptune Beach brought Justin Smith (Yuba College) in to pitch, Coe scored on a Lee ground out to make the score 5-4. With the tying and winning runs still in scoring position, Smith then got the next batter to also ground out to end the game and earn the save. Alec Olmstead (Wesleyan) picked up the win on the mound for Neptune Beach, recording four strikeouts in three and third innings in relief of starter Johnny Breidenthal (UC Riverside) who went six innings. Blair Henley (Texas) started on the mound for Santa Barbara and compiled seven strikeouts over seven innings of one-run ball, but did not figure in the decision. Lee, who singled and scored Santa Barbara’s first run in the fourth inning, drove in Hank LoForte (Cal St Fullerton), who had singled, with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and drove in LoForte again in the eighth with an RBI single, matched Halstead’s game-high three RBI.

Auburn, CA
Kevin Sandri (Pacific), Max Smith (UNLV) and Logan Finley (Benedictine) got three consecutive one-out singles to load the bases in the top of the 13th inning and all three scored on two walks and an error as the Rockville Rock Hounds beat the Auburn Wildcats 17-14 in the completion of the June 13 game that was suspended due to darkness and resumed prior to the regularly scheduled game between the same two teams today at James Field. Rockville then won the regularly scheduled game later tonight as well, beating Auburn 10-7. Details of this game were not available at post time.

Evan May (Hawaii-Pacific) allowed only three singles and one unearned run over seven innings, and Harrison Smith (Oral Roberts) doubled home Jake Sahagian (Sonoma St) from first base with the go-ahead run to lead the Long Beach Legends to a 2-1 win over the Acadmey Barons today at Long Beach City College. May, who retired the first nine hitters he faced in order, faced adversity in three of the last four innings he pitched by giving up a single to the leadoff batter of the inning three times. Although Javier Garcia (Compton JC), who led off the fourth inning with one of the singles, eventually would score on a two-out error, May was good enough to escape unscathed in all of the innings. Jason McLellan (Concordia) relieved May in the eighth and picked up where the starter left off, retiring six batters in order, three via strikeouts, to pick up the save. Long Beach opened the scoring when Jake Scott (Houston Baptist) led off the third inning with a single, advanced to third on a sacrifice and a single by Grant Gamble (Azusa Pacific) before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Michael Stefanic (Westmont). After the Barons tied the score in the fourth inning, Long Beach went ahead for good in their half of the inning when Sahagian led off with a single and scored on Smith’s double. Sebastian Sanchez started on the mound for the Barons, allowing both Legends runs in his five innings to suffer the loss, and Solomon Bates (USC) faced the minimum nine batters, striking out five, over the last three innings of relief.

Dominic Fletcher (Arkansas) hit a two-run home run to tie the score and Chase Sebby scored from first on a double by Beau Phillip (San Joaquin JC) with the go-ahead run to lead the Orange County Riptide to a 5-3 win over the San Luis Obispo Blues today at Sinsheimer Park. Fletcher’s home run, his league-best fifth of the season, wiped the bases clean for the inning by scoring Will Proctor (Georgia), who had doubled with one out in the fourth inning. A trend of ending innings with no runners aboard is usually a bad sign for an offense, today it proved the opposite for the Riptide. Orange County stranded only three runners in the game to the Blues eight despite both teams collecting seven hits and, although the Riptide hit into three double plays and made another out on the bases to erase four of their twelve baserunners, they stranded only three runners because they were scoring when they had the chance. The eighth inning was a prime example as Sebby walked to lead off, scored from first when Phillip doubled and Phillip was driven in on a single by Proctor. Proctor was then thrown out on the bases to end the inning, but the go-ahead runs were across even with the bases-cleared of runners. Phil Steering picked up the win for Orange County in relief of Hayden Shenefield, who had seven strikeouts in six and one-third innings of work, allowing two runs in the first inning on an RBI-triple by Marco Murillo (Campbellsville) and a run-scoring single by Adam Fogel (Hawaii). Justin Goossen-Brown (San Diego St) started on the mound for the Blues, going seven innings, collecting six strikeouts and did not figure in the decision. Proctor and Fletcher each finished the game with two hits to lead the Orange County offense. Murillo and Price Visintainer (Ala-Birmingham) each had two hits to lead San Luis Obispo.

Austin Dondanville (Cal Poly) pitched eight innings of one-run ball and Jeremy Jess (Pomona-Pitzer) gave him all the run support he would need by hitting a two-run home run in the fourth inning to lead the San Luis Obispo Blues to a 4-1 victory over the Southern California Catch tonight at Sinsheimer Park, the second of two games the Blues played today against different opponents. Dondanville, who scattered eight hits during his outing, escaped significant damage by not allowing a single walk. He allowed a triple to Shay Whitcomb (UC San Diego) with two outs in the first but got the next hitter, gave up a leadoff single to Evan Sandmann (Dallas Baptist) in the second but erased his presence on the bases on a double-play, allowed a pair of two out singles in the fourth but got out of it, and retired the last nine hitters he faced in order, another double-play helping his cause. The only trouble Donadanville got into was the in the fifth inning when Omar Ortiz (Pacific) led off with a double. Ortiz was thrown out trying to advance on a sacrifice, however, so the next two singles the Catch recorded by Grant Robbins (UNLV) and Anthony Seminaris (Arkansas-Ft. Smith) generated only one run, preserving the eventual victory for Dondanville. Austin Isenhart (New Mexico) relieved Dondanville in the ninth and struck out three to earn the save. Besides Jess’ big hit, San Luis Obispo added two runs in the sixth inning on a run-scoring single by Ricky Martinez (Sonoma St) and an run-producing error. Martinez finished with a game-high three hits, and Maaki Yamazaki (Hawaii) and Tate Samuelson (Cal Poly) each had two to lead the Blues. Sandmann had two hits to lead the Catch.

Fairfield, CA
The Rockville Rock Hounds scored four times in the seventh inning to take the lead and then scored three more in the eighth to put the game away, beating the Auburn Wildcats 11-7 today at Yarborough Stadium. Trailing 5-4 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Kevin Sandri (Pacific) drove in Jack Pridy with a single to tie the score and, two batters later, Brandt Frazier (Rice) hit a two-run single to give Rockville a lead they would not give back. The Rock Hounds scored three more in the eighth inning, including one on a solo home run by Nathan Gutierrez (Solano CC), and weathered a mini ninth inning rally by Auburn, when the Wildcats scored two runs on three walks and two singles, to close out the win. Carson Haws started on the mound for Rockville, recording eight strikeouts in five innings of work, but did not figure in the decision as Kirby Broadbent (Campbellsville) was the pitcher of record when the Rock Hounds took over the lead. Hayden Houts (Northern St) had a game-high three RBI, two on a double, one on a groundout, to lead the Auburn offense. Gutierrez and Kenney Quilatan (Solano CC) each had two hits to lead Rockville.

The Santa Barbara Foresters scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI-triple by Austin Todd (Texas) and a run-scoring double by Evan Lee (Arkansas), and then thwarted a last inning comeback to beat the Neptune Beach Pearl 7-6 today at Pershing Park. The eighth inning takeover by the Foresters followed a three-run seventh inning in which Todd and Lee both scored on a Josh Jung (Texas Tech) triple, Jung later scoring on an RBI-single by Luke Ritter (Wichita St), to give the Foresters a 5-4 lead. Neptune Beach tied the score in the top of the eighth on an RBI-triple by Michael Woodworth (Sierra JC), setting up Todd and Lee’s heroics in the bottom half of the inning. The Pearl then staged a mini rally in the ninth, Tim Lichty (Texas A&M) leading off the inning with a single and scoring on a single by Jordan Williams (Diablo Valley JC) who, representing the tying run, eventually made his way to third base with a runner behind him at second with the go-ahead run, but Santa Barbara reliever Garrett Gayle (Rice), brought into the game in the eighth inning, got a flyout to end the threat and pick up the win. It was the second win for the Central Division leading Foresters in two days over the North Division leading Pearl, who posted an early 4-1 lead by scoring three times on four two-out hits, including an RBI-double by James Free II (Pacific), and run-scoring singles by Andrew Rosa (Oklahoma St) and Cooper Morrison (Reedley JC). Both teams had scored one run in the third inning, Neptune Beach scoring first on a sacrifice fly, the Foresters answering with an RBI-single by Ritter, the first of his game-high three hits. Ritter, Todd and Ryan Reynolds (Texas) each had multiple-hit games for Santa Barbara. Free and Lucas Halstead (Pacific) had the only multiple-hit games for the Pearl, each finishing with two.

Tanner Lawson (St. Edwards) and Evan Kravetz (Rice) combined for nine scoreless innings pitched and Jimmy Galusky (West Virginia) hit a three-run home run to lead the Santa Barbara Foresters to an 8-0 shutout win over the Neptune Beach Pearl tonight at Pershing Park. It was the first of three meetings this weekend between the top two teams in the league the last few years and, as would be expected, starting pitching will and did determine much of the results. Lawson retired the first seven batters he faced in order before allowing two singles and a walk with one out in the third inning. It would turn out to be the biggest threat Neptune Beach would mount in the game and Lawson pitched out of it unscathed, striking out one batter and inducing an inning-ending ground ball with the bases loaded for the last out of the inning. On the other side of the game, Pearl starting pitcher Caleb Freeman (Texas Tech) gave up single runs in the second and third innings on run-scoring singles by Steven Coe (UC San Diego) and Ryan Reynolds (Texas), and was charged with two more runs scored after Austin Todd (Texas) tripled to lead off the fifth inning and scored on an Evan Lee (Arkansas) single which finished Freeman’s outing. The change did not slow the Foresters bats, however, as relief pitcher Alex Trautner gave up a double to Joshua Jung (Texas Tech) that drove Lee home, a walk and then Galusky hit his three-run shot. Santa Barbara would go on to score once more in the seventh inning when John Jensen (Santa Barbara CC) tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly. Meanwhile, Lawson and Kravetz were throwing zero-run innings. Lawson finished with six strikeouts in six innings of work, and Kravetz recorded four strikeouts and faced the minimum nine batters in his three innings. Todd finsished with a game-high three hits (single, double and triple), and Harrison Smith finished with two to lead Neptune Beach.

With the score tied in the seventh inning Dylan McPhillips (Sacramento St) hit a solo home run to spark a three-run two-out rally to lead the Auburn Wildcats to a 6-3 win over the Rockville Rock Hounds tonight at James Field. McPhillips’ homer chased Rockville’s starting pitcher Rylan Haney, who struck out five in his six and two-thirds innings of work, from the game and was followed by a Nate Verlin (Pacific) double, a run-scoring single by Jacob Booker (Air Force) and three walks to set the final score. The Rock Hounds, who had scored two in the first inning on RBI-singles by Grant St. Martin (Sonoma St) and Kirby Broadbent (Campbellsville), had just tied the game in their half of the inning, scoring an unearned run before McPhillips changed the course of the game. Paul Gallegos (William Jessup) held the Rock Hounds scoreless the last two innings to earn the save in relief of Josh Hook (William Jessup) who picked up the win in relief of Hayden Piner (William Jessup), who recorded five strikeouts over five innings of work. Verlin had run-scoring singles for Auburn in the first and third innings to finish with a game-high three hits and two RBI. Dominic Foscalina (Utah) had three hits, including one double, to lead Rockville.

Mac Lardner (Gonzaga) struck out ten hitters in seven innings pitched and Justin Beck (San Jose St) hit a two-out bases loaded two-run single to put the San Luis Obispo Blues ahead for good in their 5-4 win over the Orange County Riptide tonight at Sinsheimer Park. Lardner, who has 26 strikeouts in three CCL starts this summer, had only one inning when the Riptide had a runner reach second base, the second, when Orange County scored four times on doubles by Jake Pulcheon (Houston Baptist) and Will Proctor (Georgia) and a triple by Beau Phillip (San Joaquin JC), to take a 4-2 lead. The Blues answered in the third inning, scoring three times, capped by Beck’s go-ahead hit, to retake the lead. Lardner and, for the last two innings, Jack Cosca (Cal) and Josh Goldberg (San Jose St) held the Riptide scoreless, allowing only three hits over the last seven innings. Orange County did load the bases in the top of the ninth inning on two walks and a single, but Goldberg came into the game to relieve Cosca for the final out, a flyball to centerfield, to pick up the save. Adam Fogel (Hawaii) had a game-high three hits, and Tyson Quolas (Monterey Bay) and Beck finshed with two hits each to lead the San Luis Obispo offense. David Miranda (Florida Atlantic) had a single and a double to lead Orange County.

Corey Harrell (Graceland) hit a grand slam and Blake Burton added a two-run home run as the Arroyo Seco Saints offense erupted for seven runs in the sixth inning en route to beating the Southern California Catch 10-5 tonight at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Catch had taken a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning, having scored three times on an RBI-double by Steven Garrett (Azusa Pacific) and run-scoring singles by Evan Sandmann (Dallas Baptist) and Anthony Seminaris (Arkansas-Ft. Smith), and ran four pitchers to mound during the sixth to try, first, to preserve the lead and, second, to limit the damage, but Harrell and Burton thwarted those plans. In the big inning, Arroyo Seco collected five hits, two walks and a hit batsman to score the seven. Burton, who also had an RBI-single in the first inning and singled and scored in the eighth, finished with a game-high three hits, while four other Saints hitters had two hits each. Seminaris and Omar Ortiz (Pacific) each had two hits to lead the Catch. Gunnar Friend (Avila) picked up the win on the mound for Arroyo Seco, recording four strikeouts in four innings in relief of starter Shamon Moss (Georgetown, NAIA).

The Healdsburg Prune Packers beat the Walnut Creek Crawdads by one run for the second night in a row, holding off a late charge by the Crawdads to win 5-4 tonight at Recreation Park. Last night the Packers chased down the leading Crawdads for a dramatic come-from-behind win, tonight it was Walnut Creek doing the chasing. Down 5-2 after seven innings, the Crawdads scored once in the eighth on an RBI-double by Matt Poulin, and put the tying runs aboard with no outs in the ninth, but Healdsburg reliever Shamus Lyons (Santa Rosa JC) retired the next three batters, allowing only one of the runners to score on a sacrifice fly by Ben Skinner (Harvard) to close out the win. Clay Koelzer (Texas Tech) hit a solo home run in the second inning to start the scoring for Healdsburg and, in the third, Cameron Warren (Texas Tech) hit a two-run single and Dane Tofteland (Indiana St) hit an RBI-single to score the third. Bryce Nagata (Sonoma St), who had a game-high four hits, doubled and later scored the fifth Packers run in the eighth inning. Chase Gardner started on the mound for Healdsburg and recorded six strikeouts and allowed only one hit over five innings to earn the win.

Long Beach, CA
The Academy Barons scored four runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Caleb Squire (Bellevue) and a run-scoring triple by Denzl Chapman (San Diego St) to take an 11-8 lead, and then held-off a last inning comeback by the Long Beach Legends to win 11-10 today at Long Beach City College. It was the fifth double and second triple of the 14-hit game for the Barons compared to the only one double among 12 hits by Long Beach. Wesley Albert (Lee University) pitched the last four innings for the Barons, recording six strikeouts, to pick up the win, but faced a bit of adversity in the ninth when Long Beach got back-to-back singles with one out from Tommy Anderson (Doane) and Richie O’Reilly (Georgetown), both of whom would advance and score on a passed ball, a balk and a wild pitch to get the Legends within one. But Albert recorded the last two outs on a strikeout and a flyout to close out the win. At one point in the game Long Beach had held 7-3 lead, having scored six runs on six singles and three walks in the third inning, and once in the second, but the Barons answered with four runs of their own in the sixth, the big hit being a Chapman two-run double, to tie the score 7-7. Long Beach added an unearned run in their half of the sixth inning to retake the lead, but that only lasted until the Barons took the lead for good in the eighth. Chapman finished with a game-high three RBI, and his first double in the fifth gave him a game-high three hits along with Dailin Lee (UC Irvine), who tripled and singled twice, driving in two for the Barons, and Michael Stefanic (Westmont), who had three singles to lead Long Beach.

Dane Tofteland (Indiana St) hit a home run with two outs and one runner on in the bottom of the ninth inning and Nickolas Oar (Stanford) drove home the winning run in the bottom of the eleventh as the Healdsburg Prune Packers upended the Walnut Creek Crawdads 9-8 tonight at Recreation Park. Walnut Creek reliever Max Gray had retired the first two batters he faced in the ninth inning before Cameron Warren (Texas Tech) reached on a single and Tofteland’s dramatic homer sent the game into extras. The inning reflected what happened throughout the game. The Crawdads posted an early 6-2 lead, highlighted by a five-run fifth inning in which Matt Poulin drove in two runs with a double and Nick Simmons (Diablo Valley JC) drove Poulin home with a triple, only to have the Prune Packers answer with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI-double by Bryce Nagata (Sonoma St) and run-scoring singles by Grant Little (Texas Tech) and Warren. Then, after Healdsburg had tied the score at 6-6 in the sixth inning on a Landon Etzel (Houston) single, Spencer Lininger (Feather River) doubled to lead off the seventh and scored on another Simmons RBI-hit, and Lininger drove in another run in the eighth inning to give the Crawdads a renewed lead of 8-6, only to have Tofteland thwart it with one swing of the bat. Ricky Clark (Sonoma St) pitched the last three and two-thirds innings of the game scoreless for Healdsburg, including four strikeouts, to pick up the win. Lininger had a game-high three hits to lead Walnut Creek and six Healdsburg hitters finished with multiple-hit performances, including Little who hit a solo home run in the first inning for the first tie of the game after Sean Watkins (Cal St LA) opened the scoring with an RBI-double for Walnut Creek.

Aaron Fritts (Spokane Falls CC) drove in three runs on a pair of triples and a single, and Nate Verlin (Pacific) added an RBI triple of his own to lead the Auburn Wildcats to a 14-8 win over the Rockville Rock Hounds today at Yarborough Stadium. Fritts’ three hits and three RBI were game-high totals as all ten Auburn hitters to come to the plate recorded a hit. The Wildcats scored eight unanswered runs in the their first five at bats, including plating six in the third inning on seven hits. Rockville got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring six times themselves on eight consecutive hits before an out was recorded, including a three-run home run by Max Smith (UNLV) to get within striking distance, 8-6. Auburn wasn’t done scoring, however, adding a run in the sixth inning, one in seventh and four in the ninth, two coming on an RBI-double by Adam Moreau (Dayton), to put the game out of reach. Smith, who hit a triple in the eighth inning, was one of four Rockville players to record a multiple-hit game. Zachary Bartelme (Holy Nars) led all Rock Hounds hitters with three.

The San Luis Obispo Blues scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to ruin a well-pitched game by Josh Aguilar and John Szczesny (Azusa Pacific) to beat the Long Beach Legends 5-4 tonight at Sinsheimer Park. Aguilar and Szczesny had kept the Blues at bay for eight innings, allowing only one run, scattering seven hits and walking only one batter, while the Long Beach hitters posted an early 4-0 lead on a two-run home run by Harrison Smith (Oral Roberts) in the second inning and a two-run double by Jake Sahagian (Sonoma St) in the third. But all that effort of working around hits and giving little away for free was undone in the ninth as the strike zone vanished for Smith, who came in to pitch the ninth and promptly walked the first three batters he faced. The Blues hitters took advantage of the free passes, scoring all three on a pair of RBI-singles by Tyson Quolas (Monterey Bay) and Marco Murillo (Campbellsville), before the fourth walk of the inning loaded the bases again with one out and, fittingly, the walk-off game winning run scored during the next at bat on a hit batsman. San Luis Obispo had closed the score to 4-1 in the fifth inning when Jeremy Jess (Pomona-Pitzer) led off with a double and scored on a Quolas double.

Blake Burton (Washington) hit a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning and Brendan Krob (Evansville) hit a two-out, bases-loaded, two-run double in the eighth to lead the Arroyo Seco Saints to a 4-1 win over the Southern California Catch today at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Burton’s solo shot came one inning after the Saints had finally gotten to Catch starting pitcher Chris Vargas (UC Irvine), who had thrown five shutout innings before issuing a leadoff walk to Dustin Krob (Dayton). Krob eventually advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a two-out single by Spencer Mossburg (Lee) to tie the score 1-1. Vargas was replaced on the mound by Tallon Thomason (Fresno CC) and, with one out, Burton put the Saints ahead for good. Mitchell Bumann (Hawaii-Pacific) accounted for the Catch run with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Brendan Krob finished with a game-high three hits, while Bumann and Shay Whitcomb (UCSD) had two hits each to lead the Catch. Quint Robinson (Tennessee) picked up the win for Arroyo Seco, in relief for starter Gordon Ingebritson who scattered six hits and two walks over six innings to allow only one run.

Walker Grisanti (Vanderbilt) walked (odd?), advanced to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a balk and scored on a two-out single by Evan Lee (Arkansas) in the tenth inning to lead the Santa Barbara Foresters to a 6-5 walk-off win over the Ventura Halos today at Pershing Park. The Foresters had posted an early 5-1 lead, scoring once in the first inning when leadoff hitter David Hamilton (Texas) tripled and scored on a groundout, three times in the third, including a solo home run by John McMillon (Texas Tech), and once in the sixth when Jake Pavletich (Cal St Fullerton) hit the third single of the inning to plate a run, and starting pitcher Jake McDonald (Texas Tech) made it stick, recording six strikeouts with one walk and four hits in six-plus innings of work. When McDonald left the game, however, Ventura came back, scoring twice in the eighth inning on an run-scoring single by Joey Mendez (Fresno St) and a passed ball, and twice more in the ninth to tie the score 5-5 on an RBI-double by Rudy Aguilar (Ventura JC) and an error. Jack Cunningham came in to pitch for Ventura in the eighth inning and held Santa Barbara at bay, for a while, striking out five as the Halos came back, but the walk to Grisanti to lead off the tenth and the ensuing free bases was the difference. Luke Ritter (Wichita St) had a game-high three hits for Santa Barbara, while Ventura’s hits-leader had two, a double and single by Christian Jones (Washington).

Harrison Moore hit a pair of home runs and Kevin Stone (Harvard) pitched six shutout innings to lead the Neptune Beach Pearl to a 5-3 win over the Auburn Wildcats tonight at James Field. Hitting in the leadoff position, Moore led off the game with a solo shot and did the same to lead off the third inning to give the Pearl the early lead, a lead that Stone made stick by retiring 15 of the first 16 hitters he faced and 18 of 21 overall, recording six strikeouts and allowing only two hits. Neptune Beach added a run in the fourth inning on an RBI-groundout by Jake Chappell (Oklahoma St), and two in the eight on a run-scoring single by Kai Moody (Cabrillo JC) and a Chappell sacrifice fly, before Auburn came roaring back when Stone was lifted for a reliever. The Wildcats scored three times in the eighth inning on a two-out, bases load three-run double by Kale Leach, and once more in the ninth when Jacob Booker (Air Force) doubled and later scored on a groundout, but the Wildcats fell short of tying the game. Zach Miller (West Virginia) singled twice and was driven home twice by Chappell to also highlight the Pearl’s performance. Manuel Velasquez started on the mound for Auburn and struck out six in six innings of work, suffering the loss.

Three pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts and Price Visintainer (Ala-Birmingham) drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with the second of his three hits as the San Luis Obispo Blues beat the Santa Barbara Foresters 3-2 tonight at Sinsheimer Park. Bobby Ay (Cal Poly) started on the mound for the Blues and struck out six in five and two-thirds innings, Jake Swiech (San Jose St), the first reliever in, struck out four in two and one-third innings, and Austin Isenhart (New Mexico) struck out three in his one inning of work in the ninth. All three pitchers used the strikeout to escape run-scoring situations relatively unscathed, none more so than Isenhart who, although striking out the first two batters he faced in a one-run game to start the ninth inning, gave up a single and a walk to put the tying and go-ahead runners on board. But, as the storyline of the game proved out, Isenhart struck out the last batter to close out the win. The pitching on the Santa Barbara side was maybe even slightly more dominant than San Luis Obispo as Evan Lee (Arkansas), Nathan Wiles (Oklahoma) and Garrett Gayle (Rice) combined to record 11 strikeouts in eight innings, allowing fewer hits and few walks than their counterparts, but were undone by Visintainer’s single in the third inning that score two unearned runs and proved to be the difference in the game.

Jumpei Akanuma (Lee University) retired the first 15 batters in order and the Arroyo Seco Saints jumped out to a 7-0 lead tonight in their game against the Long Beach Legends, but it took two runs in the eighth inning, including a home run by Brendan Krob (Evansville), to hold off a late charge by Long Beach to secure an 9-8 win tonight at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Akanuma was nearly perfect for five innings. The one hitter he allowed on base, Trevor Casanova (Northridge), singled to lead off the fourth inning but was erased in an inning-ending double play. Pitching with a comfortable 7-0 lead, Akanuma gave some ground in the sixth inning when Jake Sahagian (Sonoma St) led off with a solo home run and Luke DeVenney singled after one out, but he retired the next two batters in the sixth and then three in a row in the seventh, two on strike outs, before Long Beach finally got his number in the eighth. The Legends scored four times on four hits, including an RBI-double by Michael Stefanic (Wesmont), to chase Akanuma, still holding a 7-4 lead with one out left in the inning, but Quint Robinson (Tennessee) struck out the only batter he faced to end the threat. On offense, the Saints scored in the first, third and fifth innings on RBI-singles by Brett Adams, Alex Briggs (LIU Brooklyn), Josh Magee (Faulkner) and Corey Harrell (Graceland) to post the 7-0 lead and, when Long Beach closed the gap to 7-4, Krob came through with an important insurance run, because the Legends weren’t quite done. They scored three more times in the ninth inning on an RBI-single by Corey Treyes (Coppin St) and a two-out bases-loaded two-run single by Stefanic, but came up one run short, as Josh Little (NC Central) came into the game to get the last out on a groundout to earn the save.

The Walnut Creek Crawdads broke open a tight, evenly-matched game by scoring three times each in the seventh and ninth innings to beat the Rockville Rock Hounds 10-4 today at Yarborough Stadium. The Crawdads put four consecutive batters on base on two singles and two walks, took advantage of a couple of wild pitches to score in the seventh inning, and then, in the ninth, used a double by Jake Allen (Harvard), run-scoring singles by Grant Chapman (Los Medanos JC) and John Ballard (Colorado Mesa) and one more run-scoring wild pitch to put the game away. Connor Caspersen and Nick Simmons (Diablo Valley JC) each had three singles and an RBI to lead Walnut Creek, Brandt Frazier (Rice) had two hits, including a three-run home run in the fifth inning to lead the Rockville offense, and Chris Allen (College of Marin) struck out seven batters in four-plus innings of work, but allowed four runs on eight hits to suffer the loss.

Solomon Bates (USC) hit a three-run home run, Angel Mora hit a two-run version and Tyler Tungate (Faulkner) notched seven strikeouts in four innings of relief to lead the Academy Barons to an 8-4 win over the Southern California Catch today at Biola University. Mora got the scoring going for the Barons, hitting his homer with one out in the top of the first inning and, after the Catch scored one in their half of the first on an RBI-single by Steven Garrett (Azusa Pacific) and tied the score in the fourth on a double by Evan Sandmann (Dallas Baptist) and a run-scoring single by Omar Ortiz (Pacific), Bates put the Academy up for good with his three-run shot. Bates added an RBI-single in the seventh to finish with a game-high four RBI, and scored the final run of the game on a single by Hunter Allen (Alabama St). Bates, Mora and Sandmann each had three hits to share game-high honors in that category. The ten-run performance by the Barons was in spite of the 15 strikeouts Zac Whittaker (Fresno CC), Matthew Wade (SE Missouri St) and Tucker Thomason (Fresno CC) compiled combined.

The Neptune Beach Pearl blasted the Auburn Wildcats 29-3, collecting 27 hits as a team, posting outrageous numbers for individually performances and creating problems for the scoreboard operator tonight at James Field. Lucas Halstead (Pacific) drove in runners in five of his eight plate appearances, including three on a home run in the fifth inning, to finish with a game-high seven RBI, Jordan Williams (Diablo Valley JC) scored five runs and had four hits in eight plate appearances, James Free (Pacific) scored six times, and on and on, too many big performances to list. And the scores by inning is no less dramatic. The biggest inning for the Pearl, and there were a few big ones, was the second inning when they sent 16 batters to the plate, collected six hits, were issued five walks, received two reached by error and score ten times. Right behind the second inning in terms of outrageousness was the fifth inning when Free hit a two run home run, the next two batters reached on singles and then Halstead hit his three-run homer. Cooper Morrison (Reedly JC) added a two-run home run in the seventh… and we will stop there listing the personal performances of the Neptune Beach Pearl. Sam Curtis (William Jessup) hit a two-run home run for Auburn.

The Santa Barbara Foresters scored four times in their first at bat and their starting pitcher, Ty Weist (Columbia), made it hold up, throwing six innings of shutout ball, as the Foresters beat San Luis Obispo 10-2 tonight at Sinsheimer Park. Weist recorded seven strikeouts for his start, allowed only three singles with zero walks, and dealt with only one runner in scoring position, Price Visintainer (Ala-Birmingham) who singled to lead off the fourth inning and moved up to second base on a passed ball. Weist struck out the next two batters, however, got a ground ball for the third out and never was threatened again. San Luis Obispo’s starting pitcher, Jack Schneider (Grand Canyon), settled in after giving up four in the first on an RBI-double by Ryan Reynolds (Texas), a run-scoring triple by Evan Lee (Arkansas), an RBI-single by David Clawson (BYU) and a fourth run on a balk. Schneider then retired 14 of the next 15 batters he faced before striking out his third batter with runners in scoring position in the sixth. When both teams went to the bullpen, the Foresters were the ones who took advantage. Santa Barbara scored twice in each of the last three innings while the Blues scored twice only in the seventh to put the final score at 10-2. Ryan Cash (Oklahoma St) and Austin Todd (Texas) each scored three times in the game for the Foresters, Cash collecting two singles along the way, Todd a double and a single, to lead the Santa Barbara attack. John McMillon (Texas Tech) pitched the final two innings for the Foresters and posted four strikeouts to seal the win.

Angel Mora hit a two-run home run, Denzl Chapman (San Diego St) added a solo shot, and Bruce Martin (Stetson) had a two-run single to lead the Academy Barons to a 7-4 win over the Southern California Catch tonight at the MLB Urban Youth Academy. While the home runs generally get top billing, it was Martin’s run producing hit that was the big event in tonight’s game. Catch starting pitcher Hayden Jorgenson (Azusa Pacific), although trailing 2-0 by way of Chapman’s homer in the third and an RBI-single allowed earlier to Jonah Dean-Hargroves (Jackson St), had notched six strikeouts in five innings and had retired the first two batters he faced in the sixth before his outing got unmanageable. With two outs he gave up a single to Roosevelt Bates (USC), a double to Dean-Hargroves and then faced Martin, who drove in both runners and then scored on an error to chase Jorgenson from the game. Mora’s home run, which came in the following inning, was just icing on the cake that Martin and company had baked. Matt Mogollon (Chapman) started on the mound for the Barons, pitched seven innings and was never really threatened until the seventh inning when Omar Ortiz (Pacific) picked one of his two RBI in the game on a groundout and Click here for recaps of this game hit a run-scoring double.

The Long Beach Legends scored four runs on three consecutive two-out hits in the second inning to jump out to an early lead they would never relinquish en route to a 7-4 win over the Arroyo Seco Saints today at Long Beach City College. A two-run double by Trevor Steinman (Chico St), sandwiched between a pair of RBI-singles by Trevor Casanova (Northridge) and Michael Stefanic (Westmont) were the hits that put the Legends on top. The insurance runs came later as Stefanic, who finished with a game-high four hits, drove in two more runs on a single in the sixth and a double in the eighth, and Griffin Keller plated another with an RBI-single in the fifth. Arroyo Seco got within one, scoring on an RBI-triple by Josh Magee (Faulkner), a run-scoring single by Gabe Chavez (Rio Hondo JC) and an RBI-groundout to put the score at 4-3, but that was as close as they would get. Jacob Alcorn started on the mound for Long Beach and threw five innings with a pair of strikeouts to earn the win, Charles Carr (Grinnell) had four strikeouts in three scoreless innings of relief, and Luke DeVenney (Eastern Michigan) pitched the ninth to pick up the save. Dellan Raish (ASU) had six strikeouts in four-plus innings in his start for the Saints but suffered the loss.

DJ Miller (Ole Miss) had a four-for-five game, drove in three runs, stole two bases and scored twice to lead the Conejo Oaks to a 12-9 win over the Orange County Riptide today at Sparky Anderson Field. Miller’s day at the plate and bases was the most notable from among good offensive performances turned in by players from both teams today as the Riptide and Oaks decided to have a “staff day” on the mound, sending six and seven pitchers to the mound respectively. The result: eleven hitters from both teams recorded multiple-hit games and both teams collected a total of 15 hits for the game. Orange County’s David Miranda (Florida Atlantic), who hit a three-run home run and a pair of run-scoring doubles to post a game-high five RBI, had the best offensive day of any player, but in a losing cause. Sam Shaikin (Valparaiso) had a double, single and three runs scored and Zayne Willems (Texas Tech) had a double and three RBI to join Miller in top performances for the Oaks. Joey Parente and Cooper Uhl (LMU) each had three hits to join Miranda in highlighting the Riptide performance.

The Orange County Riptide scored five runs in their first at bat on a pair of two-run doubles by Beau Phillip (San Joaquin JC) and Connor Beck (Texas Tech) and a sacrifice fly by David Miranda (Florida Atlantic) to spark a 13-6 win over the Southern California Catch today at Biola University. The Catch actually out hit the Riptide today, collecting 14 hits, including a home run and four doubles, to Orange County’s eleven hits, but the Riptide made the most of its opportunities, stranding only four baserunners while the Catch stranded eleven. Three Orange County home runs was the key to keeping the bases clean for the Riptide. Dean Miller (UC Riverside) hit the first, a three-run version in the fifth inning, Joey Parente hit a two-run home run in the eighth and Dominic Fletcher (Arkansas) capped the scoring with a solo shot in the ninth. Steven Garrett (Azusa Pacific) hit the home run for the Catch, a solo shot in the fourth, and Jonathan Ducoff (Houston Baptist) had a pair of doubles to highlight the Southern California performance.

Adam Fogel (Hawaii) hit a grand slam and Nick Pagan (Cuesta JC) hit a solo home run to account for all the runs in the San Luis Obispo Blues’ 5-2 win over the Santa Barbara Foresters today at Pershing Park. Fogel’s slam, set up by two singles and a hit batsman came with two outs in third inning and erased the Foresters’ 2-0 lead which was set the inning before by a two-run home run by Chandler Bengston (Cloumbia) . The four-run lead was more than enough for the Blues starting pitcher Austin Dondanville (Cal Poly) who worked seven innings, allowing only the two second inning runs, before turning the ball over to reliever Austin Isenhart (New Mexico) who closed out the game with two innings scoreless. Santa Barbara’s Luke Ritter (Wichita St) and Brody Weiss (Westmont) were the only hitters in the game with more than one hit, two singles and a single and ground rule double respectively.

Healdsburg, CA
Dane Tofteland (Indiana St) hit an RBI-double in the first inning and Cole Brodnansky (Santa Rosa JC) followed with a two-run double, and Cameron Warren (Texas Tech) hit his second home run in as many days, a two-run version in the fifth inning, as the Healdsburg Prune Packers completed the sweep of a doubleheader against the Auburn Wildcats with a 6-2 win in the nightcap. The three-run first inning erased Auburn’s early 1-0 lead, courtesy of a solo home run Adam Moreau (Dayton) to lead off the game. The Wildcats didn’t score again until the eighth inning when Daniel Costello (Oklahoma CC) tripled and scored on a Nate Verlin (Pacific) RBI-single, but by then Warren’s homer and a sacrifice fly by Bryce Nagata (Sonoma St) had set the final score at 6-2. Dominic Garihan picked up the win on the mound for Healdsburg, scattering six hits over five innings to allow only one run while striking out five.
Justin Giovannoni (Pacific) faced the minimum 18 hitters in his six-inning start today, striking out five and getting help from his defense as the only three batters to reach, two on walk, one on a single, were erased on the bases to lead the Healdsburg Prune Packers to a 10-2 win over the Auburn Wildcats in the first game of a doubleheader today at Recreation Park. Giovannoni got plenty of run support for his stellar pitching performance as the Healdsburg batters scored ten unanswered runs, including two in the first inning on run-scoring singles by Landon Etzel (Houston) and Brodnansky, a solo home run by Tofteland in the third and a three-run home run by Nickolas Oar (Stanford) in the sixth. Both of Auburn’s runs came in the top of the seventh inning on a bases-loaded walk and an RBI-single by Justin Glover (Eckerd) .

Carson Haws recorded nine strikeouts in four innings, allowing no runs to start the game and only one hit, and Garlind Webster (ENMU) and Max Smith (UNLV) each had two-run doubles as the Rockville Rock Hounds shutout the Walnut Creek Crawdads 7-0 today at Yarborough Stadium. Even with all of the punchouts, Haws was not without adversity. His four walks, two hit batsmen and the single he allowed put Crawdad runners on base in each of his innings, but when Daws needed it, the strikeouts were there. He struck two in each of the first three innings and then recorded all three outs in the fourth via the strikeout. Relief pitchers Kirby Broadbent (Campbellsville) and Daniel Page continued to hold Walnut Creek down, allowing three hits over the final five innings and each striking out two. The Ballard brothers, John and Joshua (Colorado Mesa) accounted for all four of the hits for Walnut Creek today, all singles. No Rockville starting player had a multiple-hit game, but eight of the nine hitters in the starting lineup got one.

Jordan McFarland (Arkansas) had an RBI-double, Codi Santana (Hawaii-Pacific) doubled and scored, and Mayeaux, with a single earlier in the game, recording the only multiple-hit game for the Oaks, highlighted the Conejo offense. Richie O’Reilly (Georgetown) had a two-hit game to highlight the Legends’ four-hit performance.

Alex Baeza (Hawaii) homered and doubled twice and Ben Skinner (Harvard) drove in three runs on a pair of doubles to lead the Walnut Creek Crawdads to a 9-3 win over the Rockville Rock Hounds tonight at Laney College. The Crawdads roughed up Rock Hounds starting pitcher Rylan Haney for eleven hits and eight runs in his six innings of work and, although Baeza and Skinner produced most of the run production, David Langer (Chabot) started the scoring with an RBI-triple in the second, Josh Ballard (Colorado Mesa) hit a solo home run in the sixth and both Grant Chapman (Los Medanos) and Daylen Calicdan (Hawaii) added run-scoring singles. Walnut Creek’s starting pitcher McGrane Pledger (Laney) went seven innings, allowing two runs while scattering eight hits, two each by Grant St. Martin (Sonoma St) and Jack Pridy, to earn the win.

The Conejo Oaks scored three times in the eighth inning to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 advantage, scored an insurance run in the ninth and relief pitchers Evan McMillin (UC Irvine) and Robby Medel (Arizona) punched out five batters in two innings to close out a 6-4 win over the Santa Barbara Foresters tonight at Pershing Park. Brandon Lewis (LA Pierce) tied the game in the eighth inning for the Oaks with an RBI-double and scored the go-ahead run when Codi Santana (Hawaii-Pacific) drove him in with a single. Once Conejo got the lead it was up to McMillin and Medel to close out the win. McMillin struck out the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the eighth inning and, after allowing a walk and a base hit, got the third out on a ground ball to hold the lead. Medel was a bit more dominant in his inning of work. He struck out three to earn the save. Santa Barbara had posted their 4-2 lead early, scoring an unearned run in the first inning, another in the second and two in the third on a two-run single by Evan Lee (Arkansas). Foresters’ starting pitcher Daniel Vasquez (Tennessee) had six strikeouts in six innings of work but did allow two Oaks runs in the second inning, one on an RBI-double by Santana and another on a Juan Gonzalez (Oklahoma Baptist) single.

David Miranda (Florida Atlantic) hit a grand slam and three pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts as the Orange County Riptide beat the Southern California Catch 6-1 today at Concordia University. Miranda’s home run was the big hit in the Riptide’s five-run sixth inning and was setup after Orange County loaded the bases and scored one run on three walks and a single. Up until that point, the game had been a close one. The Catch had posted a 1-0 lead in their first at bat when Mitchell Bumann (Hawaii-Pacific) doubled and scored on an Evan Sandmann (Dallas Baptist) sacrifice fly. Southern California’s starting pitcher Bailey Martin (Miami) held tight to that lead, retiring the Riptide in order for three innings before issuing two walks in the fourth and pitching around them, and another walk in the fifth and pitching around that one too. Martin then issued two more walks to open the sixth inning before being relieved and, three batters later, Miranda finally capitalized for the Riptide. Hayden Shenefield, Timothy Holdgrafer and Braxton Smith (Louisiana Tech) were in total command on the mound for Orange County. After surrendering the one run in the first, Shenefield retired the next 13 hitters he faced, five of them on strikeouts. Holdgrafer was just as relentless, retiring nine of the ten batters he faced, the exception being a double by Shay Whitcomb (UCSD) to lead off the eighth inning, and recorded six strikeouts. And Smith was the same, striking out three in the ninth inning to close out the win.

The Arroyo Seco Saints scored eight unanswered runs to start the first game of a doubleheader against the Academy Barons today at the MLB Urban Youth Academy, two on a two-out triple by Dustin Krob (Dayton) in the second inning and three on a home run by Tyler Durna (UCSD) in the fouth, en route to a 9-4 victory. Krob, who also singled in the first inning and hit a second triple in the sixth, scored three times in the game, and Durna added a RBI-ground out to finish with a game-high four RBI. The Barons flipped the tables on the Saints in the second game, however, scoring eleven times on twelve hits to win the second half of the doubleheader 11-4. Javier Garcia (Compton JC) led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run, Joseph Argumedo (Lynn) drove in three runs on a double and a ground out and Roosevelt Bates (USC) had two singles and two RBI to lead the Academy offense.
Long Beach, CA
Jake Scott (Houston Baptist) hit a bases-clearing three-run double in the fourth inning and three Long Beach Legends pitchers stranded 14 baserunners to lead the Legends to a 6-2 victory over the San Luis Obispo Blues today at Long Beach City College. Scott’s double, the fourth consecutive hit Long Beach put together to open the fourth inning, followed an RBI-single by Trevor Steinman (Chico St) in the third which plated Robert Barham (Long Beach CC) who had doubled, to put the score at 4-0. The four-run lead was just the cushion the Long Beach pitchers needed as San Luis Obispo put runners on base in all but one inning. Legends’ starting pitcher John Szczesny (Azusa Pacific) pitched around seven hits to allow only one run, on a Price Visintainer (Ala-Birmingham) RBI-single in the fifth, and Jacob Alcorn and Harrison Smith (Oral Roberts) stranded six runners in their three innings of relief to secure the win. Michael Stefanic (Westmont) doubled and tripled to highlight the Long Beach performance.

Healdsburg, CA
Kale Leach came to bat with two outs in the ninth inning today with two runners in scoring position and couldn’t have known his at bat would determine the outcome of the game. As it turned out, with the 6-3 score comfortably in favor of the Auburn Wildcats, Leach’s ensuing two-out, two-run single was all the difference. The two runs increased Auburn’s lead to 8-3, just enough cushion as the Healdsburg Prune Packers scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth, three of them on a home run by Cameron Warren (Texas Tech), but the Packers fell one run short and Auburn held on for an 8-7 win today at Recreation Park. It was just that kind of a topsy-turvy game, with both teams trading runs early and, when Auburn would start to pull away, Healdsburg would come back. Sam Curtis (William Jessup) had the other big hit for Auburn, a two-run single in the sixth, and Grant Little (Texas Tech) matched Warren with a game-high three RBI on two singles and a groundout to lead Healdsburg.

Fairfield, CA
The Rockville Rock Hounds’ three triples, two doubles and a home run were better than the Walnut Creek Crawdads’ two home runs, one triple and a double tonight as Rockville beat the Crawdads 9-6 at Yarborough Stadium. Kevin Sandri (Pacific) hit the first of his two triples in the game to open the scoring for the Rock Hounds, driving home two runs in the second inning and scoring shortly thereafter on a double by Brandt Frazier (Rice), who later scored to give Rockville an early 4-1 lead. Max Smith (UNLV) then tripled to lead off the third inning and scored on a Sandri sacrifice fly to up the lead to 5-1 and, after David Langer (Chabot) hit one of his two solo home runs for Walnut Creek in the fourth inning, Grant St. Martin (Sonoma St) hit his own solo home run in the fifth to give Rockville a four-run lead again. It was a pattern that would continue the rest of the game. John Ballard (Colorado Mesa) hit a two-run double in the sixth inning for Walnut Creek, but Rockville scored once in the bottom of the frame. Langer’s second home run and a second unearned run got the Crawdads to within one after seven innings, but a bases loaded walk to St. Martin and a second, unearned run in the eighth inning provided what would be the winning margin for the Rock Hounds.

Chase Gardner gave up a leadoff single to Sam Curtis (William Jewell) to start the game for the Healdsburg Prune Packers tonight at Recreation Park, and then promptly retired the next 18 batters he faced to lead the Packers to a 9-2 win over the Auburn Wildcats. Besides Curtis, Gardner allowed only one other Auburn hitter to reach base, on a walk in the second inning, but that runner was erased as part of an inning-ending double play. Gardner finished with six strikeouts, including four in a row to bridge the third and fourth innings, before turning the ball over to the bullpen. Landon Etzel (Houston) got the scoring underway for Healdsburg with an RBI-double in the second. Cameron Warren (Texas Tech) hit a solo home run and Clay Koelzer (Texas Tech) had a two-run double in the third to up the score to 4-0, Sawyer Pittman (San Jose St) hit a two-run home run in the sixth and a pair of doubles by Stephen Kalina and Dane Tofteland (Indiana St) led to three more in the seventh and a 9-0 Healdsburg lead. Auburn scored both their runs in the ninth inning, one on an RBI-single by Nate Verlin (Pacific), which scored Daniel Costello (Oklahoma CC) who had doubled, and a second on a Justin Glover (Eckerd) solo home run.

The Orange County Riptide scored 13 unanswered runs, including an eight-spot in the seventh inning, en route to a 14-2 win over the Southern California Catch today at Biola University. Dominik Fletcher (Arkansas) hit a solo home run in the first inning to start the scoring, David Miranda (Florida Atlantic) hit a two-run double and later scored in the fourth inning to up the score to 4-0, and seven Riptide batters recorded hits to generate the eight runs in the seventh, including a two-out, two-run home run by Aaron Greenfield (UNC), a two-run double by Jake Pulcheon (Houston Baptist) and run-scoring singles by Joey Parente and Logan Pouelsen (Hawaii). Miranda, who had a sacrifice fly RBI in the seventh, finished with a game-high three RBI. Six Orange County pitchers combined to limit the Catch hitters to only two hits and a total six baserunners, two of which were retired on the bases, leading to six one-two-three innings and a dominant 31 hitters faced for a nine-inning game. Caleb Kilian (Texas Tech) put in the bulk of the work of the six pitchers, throwing four innings with six strikeouts to earn the win.

San Luis Obispo, CA
Mac Lardner (Gonzaga) threw a complete game shutout, facing only four batters over the minimum, to lead the San Luis Obispo Blues to a 3-0 victory over the Conejo Oaks tonight at Sinsheimer Park. Lardner was dominant from the start of the game to the finish, retiring the first 12 batters he faced, 17 of the first 18, 26 of the first 28 and, ultimately, 27 of the total 31 hitters the Oaks managed to bring to the plate. He retired the side in six of the nine innings, recorded nine strikeouts with no walks, and never allowed an Oaks player to reach second base until two outs in the ninth inning when Max Weinstein (Cal Lutheran) singled and was moved up one base on a single by Grant Mayeaux (San Diego St). Offensively for the Blues, Ricky Martinez (Sacramento St) led off the bottom of the first with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a fly ball by Drew Judson (Hendrix). It would be the only run Lardner would need. Martinez added a run-scoring single to drive in Myles Emmerson (Cal Poly), who had doubled, to score a second run in the second, and the Blues added an unearned run in the third inning to cap off the scoring.

Santa Barbara, CA
The Santa Barbara Foresters relied on a strong pitching performance from Tanner Lawson (St. Edwards) for one win, and a 14-hit offensive performance for a second to sweep a doubleheader against the Long Beach Legends today at Pershing Park. Lawson posted eight strikeouts in seven innings of work in the opener, allowing three hits, one walk and only one unearned run, to lead the Foresters to a 3-1 win. The lone blemish on Lawson’s outing came after the game’s leadoff hitter, Harrison Smith (Oral Roberts), reached base on an error and scored on a triple by Trevor Steinman (Chico St). Steinman was thrown out at the plate on a fielder’s choice in the next at bat, however, and Lawson went on to retire eleven of the next twelve batters he faced, recording at least one strikeout in every inning. Santa Barbara tied the score in the third inning on a two-out double by Austin Todd (Texas) and an RBI-single by Walker Grisanti (Vanderbilt). Brody Weiss (Westmont) doubled and scored on another Grisanti single in the seventh with the go-ahead run, and Chandler Bengtson (Columbia) singled and scored on a sacrifice fly with the final run.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Santa Barbara’s leadoff hitter Ryan Cash (Oklahoma St) scored four times, Luke Ritter (Wichita St) drove in three runs and six Foresters hitters had multiple-hit games to lead the Foresters to a 11-3 win and the doubleheader sweep. Reese Berberet (Long Beach CC) hit a two-run home run to highlight the Legends’ performance.
