June 8, 2019 Thousand Oaks, CA Trent MacKinney (Glendale JC) doubled to lead off the tenth inning of a 6-6 game and scored on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Raul Sandoval (Oxnrd JC) to give the Conejo Oaks a 7-6 comeback win over the Arroyo Seco Saints today at Sparky Anderson Field. MacKinney's double, his third hit of the game, set up a comeback that saw the Oaks chase down a six-run deficit before they even came to bat. The Saints had scored six runs in the top of the first inning on six hits, including a two-out, two-run double by Jacob Wyeth (Cisco JC), who matched MacKinney with a game-high three hits. All of the Saints runs came against Oaks starting pitcher Matthew Strother (UC Santa Barbara), who managed to get through the inning but turned the pitching duties from there over to the Conejo relievers. And what a job the relievers did. Four relievers, Noah Mattera (UNLV), Charlie Beilenson (Brown), Jacob Flores (San Diego St) and Carson Carter (Texas Tech) held the Saints in check, throwing a combined nine shutout innings on five hits and six strikeouts. Conejo got their first run of their comeback right away in the first inning when Tyler Odekirk (Cal St LA) led off with a single and scored from first on Ryne Yamashiro (Cal Lutheran) two-out double. The Oaks managed to get runners on base in every inning off of Saints starting pitcher Hayden Harris (Georgia Southern) and their first reliever, Michael Hendricks (Lee), but didn't score again until the sixth inning when MacKinney drove in a run with a groundball and Gabe Baldovino (Ventura JC) hit a two-out RBI-single to make the score 6-3. The Oaks tied the game in the seventh inning after Steele Ledford (UC Santa Barbara) hit an RBI-double and, with the bases loaded and two outs, MacKinney picked up his second and third RBI of the game with a single. Both teams went quietly in the eighth inning and stranded runners in the ninth to send the game into extra innings. Arroyo Seco got their leadoff batter on base via a walk, but Carter retired the next three batters he faced, two via strikeout to set up the walk-off dramatics in the bottom of the tenth. Justin Banks (Coppin State) drove in a game-high five runs with a two-run home run, a two-run double and an RBI-groundout, Christian Harkey (Savannah St) hit two home runs in consecutive at bats and finished the game with four RBI, and Eric Waldichuk (Willamette) hit a solo home run and an RBI-double to lead the Mudcats. Zach Bushling, who entered the game late for Lincoln, was a perfect three-for-three, hit a solo home run in his first at bat and added a pair of RBI-singles to finish with four RBI, while Zachary Patterson (Ohlone), Kana'kai Gaughan (MS Valley St), Matt Lopez and Anders Green each collected two-run doubles, among other hits, to lead the Potters. Click here for recaps of this game Compton, CA Basiel Williams Jr. (Jones JC) drove in what proved to be the winning run with a two-out triple in the seventh inning and JP Massey (Minnesota) locked down the win by pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth innings to lead the Academy Barons to a 5-4 win over the Orange County Riptide today at the MLB Youth Academy. Williams' triple, which drove in Trent Anderson, who had reached on an error, retook the lead from the Riptide who had scored twice in top of the inning on an RBI-double by Dylan Rock (UTSA) and a run scoring single by Andre Antone (UC Irvine) which tied the game briefly. Orange County claimed the first lead in the game when Connor Aoki (Binghamton) led off the third inning with a home run, but the Academy scored four times in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run single by Jair Donovan (Concordia), a bases-loaded error and a two-out single by Cristian Poche (New Orleans) to make the score 4-1. The Riptide added one more in the fifth inning on two walks and two hit batsmen issued by Brandon Mitchell, who entered the game to begin the inning in relief of Barons starting pitcher Julian Jackson (Eastern Kentucky) who struck out four in four innings of work. Nikelle Galatas (Jackson St) came into the game for the Academy and recorded the final out in the fifth inning to limit the damage, then retired the side in order before turning the pitching duties over to Travis Lavendier in the seventh, and Massey's lockdown innings later on. Ricky Reynoso (Pacific) was the starting pitcher for Orange County, compiling seven strikeouts in three-plus innings before turning the pitching over to Wesley Scott (Vanderbilt), who pitched two and two-thirds innings of hitless ball while striking out five. Cole Samuels (St Louis) was on the mound for Orange County when Williams hit his triple in the seventh inning and suffered the loss.
