June 9, 2019 Irvine, CA The Orange County Riptide scored four runs in their first at bat on a pair of two-run doubles by Andre Antone (UC Irvine) and Connor Aoki (Binghamton), Daniel Jung (Notre Dame) had four hits and Connor Aube (UT Arlington) scored three times to lead the Riptide to an 11-5 win over the Arroyo Seco Saints today at Great Park Stadium. Antone's double, which came after Aube led off the inning with a single and two batters walked, and Aoki's one out later, gave Orange County a lead they would not relinquish as five Orange County pitchers scattered seven Saints hits to allow only two earned runs while striking out a combined nine batters. After the Saints got on the board with a two-out, RBI-single by Thomas McCarthy (USF) in the second inning, the Riptide answered right back in their half when Aube doubled with one out, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI-groundout to make the score 5-1. Likewise, in the third inning, when Arroyo Seco scored a pair of runs on two errors and singles by Drew Cowley (Cal Poly Pomona) and Morgan Allen (St. Edward's), Orange County answered with a pair of their own on two errors, Jung's first hit of the game and an RBI-groundout. That pattern changed when the Riptide's relivers corps entered the game. Justin Lewis (Texas Tech), who entered the game to pitch in the fourth inning in relief of Tanner King, pitched two scoreless innings, allowing only one baserunner; Andrew Beauvais (Pittsburgh) faced the minimum six batters, with the help of a runner caught stealing, in his two innings; and Colin Townsend (Saint Louis) pitched a scoreless eighth. Marrick Crouse, the fourth reliever of the game for the Riptide, allowed two runs, one earned, in the ninth inning when Nolan Tressler (Georgia Southern) and Luc Lipscius (Tennessee) singled and scored, but Crouse limited the damage by striking out two and closing out the win. On offense, Orange County added runs when Jung hit a ground-rule double in the fifth and scored on a Joshua Solomon (Columbia), when Carson Matthews (BYU) singled and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and when Matthews hit an RBI-double in the seventh. Click here for recaps of this game Elsewhere around the CCL tonight: Fairfield, CA Travis Parker (Utah Valley) struck out seven in a six-inning start, Zachary Patterson (Ohlone) reached base in all five of his plate appearances, scoring four times, and Andrew Buglino had two hits, including a two-run double, and a game-high three RBI to lead the Lincoln Potters to a 9-8 win over the Solano Mudcats today at Vanden High. Parker allowed only two hits in his outing, one a solo home run by Justin Banks (Coppin State), who also had three RBI in the game, to lead off the second inning, and closed out his stint by retiring the last eleven batters he faced in order, four via strikeout. The only blemish to Parker's pitching performance was the lead off walk he issued to start the third inning, a runner that would eventually score on a Banks sacrifice fly. Patterson, who led all hitters with his three-hit day, started the scoring for Lincoln in the second inning when he led off with a double and scored the first of three runs when Nolan Young (Illinois St) drove him in with a single, and which Buglino followed with his double. With the score 3-1 heading into the third inning, Patterson singled home a run and Mattie Thomas (CSUN) hit an RBI-single to increase the lead. After Solano scored their two runs in the third, Patterson was hit by a pitch in consecutive at bats in the fifth and sixth inning and scored both times, first on an RBI-groundout by Buglino and, in the sixth, scoring from second on an error after stealing that base. Solano got to within striking distance in the seventh inning by scoring four times on an RBI-double by Eric Robles (Sterling College) and run scoring singles by Jack Pridy (Sonoma St) and Banks, but Tyler Mead held the Mudcats at bay for the next two innings, allowing one run in the ninth inning on an RBI-double by James Harwell (Sonoma St), and stranding the bases loaded to save the win for Lincoln. Click here for recaps of this game Santa Barbara, CA Ben Martz (UC Santa Barbara) hit a pinch-hit run-scoring walk-off single with the bases loaded and no outs in the tenth inning as the Santa Barbara Foresters chased down an early 3-0 deficit to the Conejo Oaks to win 4-3. Martz' dramatic hit came after the Foresters loaded the bases on a leadoff walk and two sacrifice bunts that turned into hits. The walk-off win was the culmination of a game-long effort to hold the Oaks at bay long enough for the Foresters offense. Conejo scored three times in their first two at bats, twice in the first inning on a two-out, two-un single by Ramon Gomez (Oklahoma Baptist), and once on a solo home run in the second by Trent MacKinney (Glendale CC). All three Conejo runs came off of Foresters starting pitcher Cole Quintanilla (Texas), who pitched around a leadoff single in the third inning to avoid any further damage and then turned the pitching duties over to the Santa Barbara bullpen. Five Santa Barbara relievers combined to hold the Oaks scoreless over the next seven innings, allowing only two hits and a total of five baserunners, two of which were erased on the bases, while striking out a combined 12 batters to totally shut down the Oaks offense. Travis Weston and Reece Matheisen (Glendale JC), the first two pitchers of the game for the Oaks, held the Foresters in check for most of their combined seven-inning, seven-strikeout performance. The only blemish to their outing was a two-out RBI-double by Tommy Holguin (SBCC) in the sixth inning which put Santa Barbara on the board, trailing 3-1. Ross Cadena (Wichita State) tied the game for the Foresters with a two-run home run in the eighth inning, and both teams managed to get a runner in scoring position in the ninth, but neither team scored, setting up the extra inning walk-off.
