Channy Ortiz (Grand Canyon) had three hits, including an RBI-double in the Academy Barons’ five run sixth inning that helped the Barons overcome a three run deficit and go on to beat the Conejo Oaks 9-5 today at the MLB Youth Academy. Ortiz’ double drove came with two outs in the sixth inning and drove in Trent Anderson from first base to cap a five run inning that gave the Barons the lead, 7-5, after trailing 5-2 through five. The five-run outburst was sparked by consecutive singles by Jair Donovan (Concordia) and Logan Pollack (Michigan) to lead off the inning and by Christian Lucio (Eastern Kentucky) who reached base on a dropped third strike. In turn, all three batters, once they reached first base, stole second, which generated runs for the Academy. First, Donovan scored on the passed ball that Lucio struck out on and, two outs later, Lucio scored on a wild pitch. The Barons also got a run on a sacrifice fly, a two-out RBI when Anderson singled and on Ortiz’ double. Three Acadmey relief pitchers took it from there. Larry Barabino III (Southern), who entered the game for the Barons in the top of the fifth inning in relief of David Appleby with one out and two runners on base, retired the first two batters he faced to end the Conejo rally in the fifth and went on to pitch two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Trevor Sutt (Long Beach JC) the pitched an inning and a third scoreless with two strikeouts and Elijah Pleasants, who relieved Sutt with two outs and two on in the eighth inning, got the last four outs to close out the Academy win. The Oaks scored first in the game on a solo home run by Ramon Gomez (Oklahoma Baptist) in the second inning and added two in the fourth when Steele Ledford (UC Santa Barbara) hit an RBI-triple and scored on a wild pitch. Travis Weston started on the mound for Conejo and cruised through the first three innings, facing a one-over-the-minimum twelve batters while striking out five, before surrendering two runs in the fourth inning on three singles and error. Weston, who received additional run support when the Oaks scored twice in the fifth inning on a hit batsman, two walks and an RBI-single by Nico Lima (Oxnard JC), pitched the bottom of the fifth scoreless and finished with eight strikeouts, leaving with the Oaks ahead 5-2. The Barons got two insurance runs in the seventh inning when Pollack led off with a single, stole second base and eventually scored on a wild pitch, and when Matthew Elizalde (Loyola) hit an RBI-single. Yuji Sakane (East LA JC) started on the mound for the Barons and allowed three runs on five hits in four innings of work.

Connor Pavolony (Tennessee) hit an RBI-double, Diego Harris hit a two-run triple and Eric Kennedy (Texas) added a run-scoring single to spark a four-run seventh inning that turned a close two-run ballgame into a rout as the Santa Barbara Foresters beat the Orange County Riptide 10-4 today at Pershing Park. Even though the Foresters led for most of the game, the Riptide kept things close. When Santa Barbara scored once in the first inning after Kennedy, who had three hits in the game, hit a leadoff single and later scored on a sacrifice fly, Orange County answered right back in the their next at bat when Andre Antone (UC Irvine) tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly. Likewise, when the Foresters scored twice in the bottom of the second inning via a balk and another sacrifice fly, the Riptide answered next inning with a pair of their own, scoring twice on a Michael Peabody (UC Irvine) single. After the Foresters scored once in their half of the third inning on a bases loaded walk to take the lead for good, Santa Barbara’s starting pitcher Cole Quintanilla (Texas) put a halt to the back and forth scoring by retiring the side in order over the next two innings, compiling five strikeouts in his five innings of work. The Foresters added one run in the fifth inning when Tevin Tucker (West Virginia) hit an RBI-single, and added an unearned run in the eighth. Kevin Larson (Fresno St) pitched a scoreless and hitless sixth inning in relief of Quintanilla, Brad Demco pitched two scoreless and hitless innings, and Nico O’Donnell (Texas) retired three of four batters in the ninth, but did surrender a leadoff home run to Chad Crosbie (Miami) which completed the scoring. The Riptide utilized seven pitchers in today’s game, all of whom allowed at least one hit, and were highlighted by the three strikeouts posted by Nick Jones (Georgia Southern) in two innings of work.

Isaiah Verrett (UC Davis) had four hits, including a solo home run and a double, Wellington Balsley (Solano JC) hit a base loaded triple and an RBI-double, Christian Harkey (Savannah St) hit a pair of RBI-doubles and Josh Medina (Sonoma St) added a three-run double to lead the Solano Mudcats to a 20-9 rout of the San Francisco Seals today at Vanden High. Despite those performances, the game was not a blowout until late in the game. In fact, San Francisco, which split-squad two games today here and in Lincoln, led most of the game, scoring first to lead 1-0 after one, leading 3-2 after two, trailing 6-8 after the Mudcats had a six-run rally in the third, and leading 9-8 after four completed innings, a lead the Seals carried until the sixth when Solano tied the score. And then the Mudcats scored eleven times in the seventh to blow open the game. Diego Ramirez (Occidental), who pitched in relief of starter Caleb Hill (Savannah St), very much earned the win for Solano. Ramirez shut down the Seals for the last five and a third innings, entering the game to get the final out in the fourth inning after Shane Jones hit a three-run home run to chase Hill. At one point, Ramirez retired eleven batters in a row and finished with five strikeouts and three hits allowed in his five-plus shutout innings of work.

The San Francisco Seals scored three runs with two outs in the seventh inning after the third batter of the inning struck out with two outs but reached first base safely on a dropped third strike and sparked a rally that turned a one-run deficit into a two-run lead and the Seals went on to beat the Lincoln Potters 6-5 tonight at McBean Stadium. The two-out seventh inning rally, capped by an RBI-single by Cam Climo (UMass Lowell) and a two-run single by Marco Castillo (Claremont McKenna), flipped the lead the Potters had just taken in their previous at bat when back-to-back RBI-doubles by Daniel Susac and Lorenzo Debrecht (Sierra) put Solano up 4-3. Sam Gomez (Citrus JC), who entered the game to pitch for San Francisco in relief of starter McGrain Pledger to get the final out in the sixth inning after Debrecht’s double, made the lead stick despite allowing one run in the seventh on a Matt Lopez RBI-single and facing a runner on third with one out situation in the eighth, which he escaped by inducing a fielder’s choice groundball that erased the runner at the plate and a runner caught stealing erased the batter who had reached. San Francisco, which split-squad two games today here and in Fairfield, scored the first three runs of the game on three singles and a pair of Lincoln errors and led until Zach Arnold (Oregon) hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the third in for the Potters to make the score 3-2 Seals. Travis Parker (Utah Valley) started on the mound for Lincoln, pitching six innings with three strikeouts before turning the pitching duties over to Nathan Lemos (UC Davis), who pitched the three-run seventh, and Ian Miller (Yakima Valley JC), who retired six of the seven batters he faced, striking out three.

Bailey Holbrook hit a two-out bases loaded two-run single to tie the game in the ninth inning, advanced to second when Zach Kaminkow (West Texas A&M) singled and scored the winning run when Alexander Briggs (Cal Lutheran) hit a walk-off single to lead the Conejo Oaks to a 8-7 win over the Academy Barons today at Sparky Anderson Field. The dramatic win in the ninth inning was setup by a leadoff walk, a Jacob Castro (UC Irvine) single and, after two outs were recorded on fly balls, another walk that loaded the bases. The win was made even more dramatic because the Barons had come back late in the game from a 5-2 deficit by scoring five unanswered runs in the seventh and eighth innings to head into the ninth leading 7-5. The Academy got a big game from Kyle Freeman (Pitzer College) who drove in four of the Barons five late inning runs with an RBI-double in the seventh inning and a bases-clearing three-run single in the eighth and also hit a solo home run in the fifth to score the Academy’s first run and finished with a game-high five RBI. The Oaks led early in the game, having scored once in the first inning when Raul Sandoval (Oxnard JC) led off with the first of his three hits of the game and Niko Lima (Oxnard JC) drove him in with a two-out single; once in the second when Holbrook hit a solo home run; and once in the third when a bases loaded walk gave Conejo a 3-0 lead. Reece Matheisen (Glendale JC), who started on the mound for Conejo, held the Barons hitless throughout his four-inning outing, striking out three and facing the minimum twelve batters as the two batters he walked were erased on the bases, first as part of a double-play and, second, as the out in a fielder’s choice. Even the batter who reached base on the fielder’s choice was erased on the bases, caught stealing, to assist Matheisen’s performance. After Freeman’s home run in the fifth made the score 3-1, the Oaks answered in their half of the inning with a run of their own when Lima led off with a single, stole second and scored on an error. Conejo scored their fifth run in the sixth inning when Briggs and Sandoval led off with consecutive singles and Briggs scored later on a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-2 and setup the late inning dramatics.

Starting pitcher Luke Taggart (Incarnate Word) allowed only one run in six innings, and the three relievers that followed him allowed only one hit to lead the Santa Barbara Foresters to a 4-1 win over the Arroyo Seco Saints tonight at Pershing Park. Taggert faced the minimum three batters in three of his first four innings allowing only two hits, a Thomas Luevano (USD) double to lead off the second inning, which ended on a double-play, and a two-out single in the third. Taggert’s scoreless start was matched by the Saint’s starting pitcher Hayden Harris (Georgia Southern) for three innings, but in the fourth, the Foresters got to Harris, scoring four runs on six hits, including an RBI-double by Conor McKenna (Oklahoma) and run-scoring singles by Tevin Tucker (West Virginia) and Ryan Cash (Oral Roberts). The four-run outburst would be the only scoring of the game for Santa Barbara as Luis Ramirez (Long Beach St) relieved Harris to start the fifth inning and held the Foresters scoreless over the next four, striking out four while scattering four hits. The Saints got their first two batters aboard via singles in the fifth inning, but Taggert retired the next three batters he faced to maintain his shutout. But with two outs and nobody on base, Arroyo Seco got back to back doubles by Charlie Harrigan (Miami) and Leuvano to make the score 4-1. That was as close as the Saints would get, as Taggert turned the pitching duties over to the relief corps of Christian Winston (San Diego State), who retired the side in order in the seventh inning, striking out one; Brock Helverson (West Virginia) who pitched a scoreless eighth despite facing a bases-loaded situation after allowing, with two outs, a hit batter, a walk and a single; and Ryan Bergert (West Virginia) who struck out the side to close out the win.

Michael Peabody (UC Irvine) singled, doubled and tripled and scored each time, Daniel Jung (Notre Dame) hit a two-run home run, and Carson Matthews (BYU) singled twice and scored twice to lead the Orange County Riptide to a 7-5 win over the Arroyo Seco Saints tonight at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The trio of Riptide hitters accounted for all of the Riptide’s runs scored in tonight’s game and seven of the team’s hits. Jung started the offensive production for Orange County by singling to lead off the second inning and eventually scored with two outs on a wild pitch to give the Riptide a 1-0 lead. That lead didn’t last very long as the Saints rallied for four runs in their half of the inning after a single and two walks loaded the bases with two outs and David Reyna (Ark-Monticello) hit a grand slam to put Arroyo Seco ahead. Jung produced runs for the Riptide again in the third inning, hitting a two-run home run to drive in Peabody, who had doubled, to make the score 4-3. Ricky Reynoso (Pacific), who was the starting pitcher for Orange County, and Sean Higgins (Columbia), the first reliever in, held the Saints in check, retiring eight batters in a row after Christian Scott (Tennessee), who finished the game with three hits, tripled after Reyna’s slam and until the Riptide hitters took the lead in the fifth inning. Matthews started things for the Riptide in the fifth by leading off with a single, stealing second base and scoring to tie the game on Peabody’s RBI-single. Peabody then also stole second base, advanced to third on an overthrow and scored the go-ahead run on an run producing groundout. The Saints then tied the game again in their half of the ninth when Nolan Tressler (Georgia Southern) singled to lead off the inning and scored from first on an Andy Garriola (Old Dominion) double. Matthews and Peabody repeated their run production in the seventh inning when Matthews again led off with a single and stole second base. This time, however, Peabody tripled Matthews in with what would prove to be the winning run, then scored an insurance run himself when Jung drove him home with a sacrifice fly for Jung’s game-high third RBI. Andre Antone (UC Irvine), Cole Samuels (St Louis) and Wesley Scott (Vanderbilt) made that two-run lead stick by each retiring the side in order for one inning to close out the win for Michael Defelippi (Pacific) who relieved Higgins with one out in the fifth inning and was the pitcher of record when Peabody’s triple put the Riptide in front for good.

Four Santa Barbara pitchers combined to throw a three-hit, one-run game, Ross Cadena (Wichita State) hit a solo home run and Conor McKenna (Oklahoma) singled, stole third base and scored what proved to be the winning run on a wild pitch as the Santa Barbara Foresters did just enough to beat the Conejo Oaks 2-1 tonight at Pershing Park. The four pitchers for the Foresters were the decisive factor in the win tonight as the Santa Barbara offense, despite collecting ten hits and stealing seven bases, couldn’t get runners to score. Garrett Clarke (College of Southern Nevada) started on the mound for Santa Barbara and struck out three in five innings of work while allowing only two hits. Both hits Clarke allowed came in the second inning when Ryne Yamashiro (Cal Lutheran) doubled to lead off the inning and a one out single by Ramon Gomez (Oklahoma Baptist) put runners on the corners. Yamashiro scored on an RBI-groundout to give the Oaks a 1-0 lead but Clarke struck out the last batter of the inning to avoid further damage. The Foresters tied the game immediately thereafter when Cadena hit his home run to lead off the bottom of the second inning and Clarke and the Foresters relievers held Conejo in check until the offense could muster another run. Drake Greenwood (Rice) was the first Santa Barbara reliever in, retiring six of the seven batters he faced in the sixth and seventh innings, and was the pitcher of record when the Foresters offense, having gotten runners in scoring in every inning, finally pushed one across in the bottom of the seventh when McKenna got his second hit of the game. Nico O’Donnell (Texas) pitched around a one-out single to pitch a scoreless eighth inning and Connor Woods (UNLV) retired the side in order in the ninth to close out the Santa Barbara win. Jacob Katzfey (Wichita State) had a pair of singles to join Cadena and McKenna as the only hitters with a multiple-hit game. Eric Ma (Whitman College) started on the mound for Conejo and pitched four and a third innings with a strikeout and one run allowed on six hits before turning the pitching duties over to Matthew Strother (UC Santa Barbara) and Carson Carter (Texas Tech) who allowed two hits each and one run which saddled Strother with the loss.

Sonny Brandwood and Peyton Baker (Alabama A&M) struck out five batters each, Cam Climo (UMass Lowell) hit a two-run home run, and Matt Mollahan (Chapman) drove in three runs on a pair of singles to lead the San Francisco Seals to a 9-5 win over the Lincoln Potters tonight at McBean Stadium. Brandwood started on the mound for the Seals and pitched five innings, recording one strikeout in each inning, and was given a comfortable lead before he even took the mound as Climo’s home run drove in Eric Callahan (Millersville), who had led off the game with a single, and a single and an error put a runner in scoring position for Mollahan to drive in his first run of the game and give Brandwood and the Seals a 3-0 lead. They would need those runs because the Potters answered right back in the bottom of the first inning by scoring two runs via a hit batsman, a single, an RBI-single by Jake Plecas (Utah Valley) and a passed ball made the score 3-2. Brandwood settled in and pitched around singles in the next three innings and two walks in the fifth inning to not allow another run, while the Seals offense rallied for two runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth. Joe Morin‘s double and a single by Drew Lowe (Oral Roberts) produced the two third inning runs, while a single, two hit batters, an error, a walk and Mollahan’s bases loaded single generated the four in the fourth before an out was recorded. Radd Thomas, who entered the game for Lincoln with the bases loaded and no outs in the fourth and surrendered Mollahan’s hit, retired the next three batters he faced by way of strikeouts to escape further damage, and then pitched three scoreless and hitless innings before turning the pitching duties over to Tyler Mead who finished with two scoreless innings himself. Baker, who relieved Brandwood to start the sixth inning, struck out the first batter he faced in the sixth and seventh innings, the first two batters of the ninth, but was tagged for three runs on three hits and two walks in the eighth to account for the final 9-5 score.

Colin King (Regis) and Cade Bullinger (Texas St) struck out a combined 14 hitters, Thomas Luevano (USD) hit a clutch two-out, two-run single and Christian Scott (Tennessee) doubled and scored what proved to be the winning run to lead the Arroyo Seco Saints to a 4-3 win over the Santa Barbara Foresters tonight at Jackie Robinson Stadium. King and Bullinger were tough to score upon tonight. Each scattered four hits over four plus innings and pitched with runners in scoring position in seven of their nine innings. King started the game for the Saints and stranded two baserunners in scoring position with one out in the first inning after allowing a walk and a double to Blake Hall (Oral Roberts) but struck out two batters in the inning to escape unscathed. He stranded another runner in scoring position in the second inning, again striking out a batter to avoid damage, but the Foresters did get to King in the third inning when Hall got his second hit of the game with two outs, advanced to second base when the next batter was hit by a pitch and scored on an RBI-single by Ross Cadena (Wichita State), but King struck out the next hitter to hold Santa Barbara to a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of the third inning Arroyo Seco answered the Foresters run with two of their own as a hit batter, a double by Justin Watari (New Mexico) and a walk loaded the bases with no outs and, after Foresters’ starting pitcher Larson Kindreich (Biola) struck out the next two batters, Luevano got his clutch single to put the Saints up 2-1. King and Kindreich, who notched five strikeouts in his four and a third inning start, retired the side in order in the fourth inning but neither would finish the fifth. The Foresters scored once in the fifth when the leadoff batter walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch and, after two more batters reached via an error and a hit batsman, Bullinger replaced King, and like King, stranded runners in scoring position without incurring further damage. The Saints again answered the Foresters run with one of their own, chasing Kindreich after Watari was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning and a batter walked and, after Kindreich was replaced by Ryan Bergert (West Virginia), Watari scored on a groundout to again give the Saints a one-run lead 3-2. Bullinger pitched around a leadoff single in the sixth inning, stranding a runner in scoring position by striking out a batter, then struck out two in the seventh before Scott doubled to leadoff the Arroyo Seco half of the inning and scored on a Morgan Allen (St. Edward’s) two out single. Now leading 4-2, Bullinger maintained the same approach that had worked all game. After allowing a one out single in the eighth inning, Bullinger struck out two batters to strand a runner in scoring position. And then again in the ninth inning, after allowing a single and Hall’s second double of the game to get the Foresters within one, Bullinger then retired the next two batters, this time by fly balls, stranding Hall, the potential tying run, on base to close out the Saints win. Bergert struck out four in two and two thirds innings of relief and Conner Woods (UNLV) struck out two in his one inning appearance for Santa Barbara.

JP Massey (Minnesota), Travis Lavendier (Chico St), Trevor Sutt (Long Beach JC) and Elijah Pleasants compiled a combined 15 strikeouts to lead the Academy Barons to a 4-3 win over the Orange County Riptide tonight at Great Park Stadium. The strikeouts by the Barons’ pitchers were key to their win tonight because nine of them occurred with runners in scoring position, eliminating any chance a ball put in play would produce a run. Massey, who started on the mound for the Academy, set the pattern for using the strikeout in each of his two innings. He struck out the final two outs in the first inning after a batter reached base on a fielder’s choice and stole second base and he recorded two of the three outs in the second inning via strikeout after Andre Antone (UC Irvine) doubled to lead off the inning for the Riptide. Lavendier relieved Massey to start the third inning and, after giving up one run on a two-out triple by Connor Aube (UT Arlington) and an RBI-single by Dylan Rock (UTSA), picked up where Massey left off and struck out the last batter he faced to limit the damage in the third and stranded the leadoff batter at second base in the fourth inning by striking out two of the next three batters. At this point the Barons had a 4-1 lead, having scored all of their runs in the game in a flurry of four hits and a walk to start the third inning, including RBI-singles by Trent Anderson and Channy Ortiz (Grand Canyon) and a two-run double by Jaylen Heard (Heartland). Sutt, the third Barons pitcher, struck out five batters in three scoreless innings, allowing only one runner to reach base via an error, and Pleasants retired the side in order in the eighth inning before closing out the win by striking out the last two batters he faced in the ninth. For their part, the Orange County pitchers were, except for the third inning Barons rally, every bit as dominant on the mound as the Academy, retiring the side in order in six of the nine innings and allowing only three singles and one walk outside of the four-run third.

Connor Mack (Cal) hit a three-run home run, a two-run triple and a single, Blake MacDonald (Santa Rosa JC) hit a three-run home run, and Cole Brodnansky (UConn) hit a solo home run to lead the Healdsburg Prune Packers to a 21-3 blowout win over the San Francisco Seals tonight at Recreation Park. The three players with home runs were only a slice of the 17-hit attack that was boosted by 11 walks issued by the Seals. In all, ten of the twelve Healdsburg batters who made an appearance tonight collected hits, six of whom had multiple hit games and all twelve of them scored runs. The Packers pitching was equally dominant over the Seals, who split their squad for two losing efforts tonight, here and in Lincoln, as Morgan White (Portland) struck out seven in his four-inning start, Spencer Hynes (Houston) struck out four in two innings of relief, including all three in a perfect sixth inning, Jackson Cunningham (CSUN) notched two strikeouts in two innings, and Noah Rennard (Santa Rosa JC) retired the side in order in the ninth to secure the win.

Lorenzo Debrecht (Sierra) hit a bases-clearing three-run double and Alex Schroeder hit a two-run single before an out was recorded in the ninth inning as the Lincoln Potters rallied from five runs down to a win in walk-off fashion 8-7 over the San Francisco Seals tonight at Vanden High. Trailing 7-2 after the Seals had broken open a 3-2 game with two runs in the eighth inning on a two-run home run by Drew Lowe (Oral Roberts) and two runs in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly and an RBI-groundout, the Potters started getting runners on base in their half of the ninth until their win was secured. Jordan Berry (Chochise JC) led off the ninth inning with a single, three batters walked, the Seals changed pitchers, Debrecht hit his double, two more batters walked and then Schroeder won it with his single. It was the only time Lincoln had led in the game. The Seals scored first when Hayden Craig (Southwestern) singled to leadoff the second inning, advanced to third on a Gianni Bloom double and scored on an RBI-groundout. After the Potters tied the score in the fourth on a two-out RBI-double by Berry, the Seals scored twice in the fifth on two singles, a walk, an error and a fielder’s choice to make the score 3-1. Lincoln added a run in the sixth on a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly, then the late inning mayhem ensued. Aaron Clark (Southwestern) started on the mound for San Francisco, recording five strikeouts in his five inning outing and allowed one run on three hits, and Drew Stahl had four strikeouts in three innings of relief of Clark but allowed five runs on three hits and five walks. Six pitchers appeared in the game for Lincoln, none performing better than Nolan Murphy (William Jessup) who entered the game with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the ninth inning and limited the damage by retiring the next three batters he faced to allow the walk-off victory to have a chance.

Devin Sutorius (Biola) pitched six and one-third innings of one-run baseball and Dylan Rock (UTSA) hit a two-run single and scored the third run to lead the Orange County Riptide to a 3-2 win over the Santa Barbara Foresters tonight at Great Park Stadium. Sutorius struck out six in his start and pitched with runners on base throughout, surrendering four of the six hits he allowed to the leadoff batter of an inning. In the first inning, he used a pair of strikeouts to neutralize the bunt single Eric Kennedy (Texas) used to lead off the game. In the second he induced a double play to erase the leadoff single by Jacob Katzfey (Wichita State) and, in the sixth inning, he used a strikeout and a flyball out to strand Kennedy at third who had hit a leadoff double. Only in the fourth inning was Sutorius scored upon when allowing a leadoff hitter to reach. This time, three Foresters hit consecutive singles to start the sixth, but Sutorius escaped with only one run allowed, via Katzfey’s RBI-hit, by two of the three runners being erased off the bases trying to steal. Sutorius struck out the first batter he faced in the seventh but, after he walked the next batter, he turned the pitching duties over to Andrew Beauvais (Pittsburgh) who stranded two runners to keep the inning scoreless, and then to Marrick Crouse who pitched around another leadoff single by Kennedy, his game-high third hit, in the eighth and around two errors in the ninth to close out the Riptide win. Jake Jackson (Nevada) started on the mound for Santa Barbara and pitched five scoreless innings, allowing only one hit while striking out five, and left the game leading 1-0. Orange County greeted the first Foresters reliever with three runs in the sixth inning on four singles, including Rock’s two-run hit and a two-out RBI-single by Chad Crosbie (Miami).

Gabe Baldovino (Ventura JC) hit a two-run triple, Niko Lima (Oxnard JC) had three hits, and Jacob Flores (San Diego St) retired the first nine hitters of the game in order to lead the Conejo Oaks to a 9-6 win over the Academy Barons tonight at the MLB Youth Academy. Leading 1-0 after Tyler Odekirk (Cal St LA) hit a two-out single and scored on Lima’s first hit in the third inning, the Oaks scored three times in the fourth when Steele Ledford (UC Santa Barbara) singled, Ramon Gomez (Oklahoma Baptist) doubled and Baldovino hit his triple and scored on a passed ball. Flores’ streak of consecutive batters retired ended in the fourth inning when the Barons walked three times and singled once to chase the Oaks starter with the bases loaded and one out but still leading 4-1. Logan Pollack (Michigan) drove in another run in the fourth inning and Basiel Williams Jr. (Jones JC) hit a two-out, two-run single in the fifth to tie the score 4-4. Both teams then went quietly in the sixth inning but in the seventh the Oaks scored two runs when Odekirk led off with a double, Lima got his second hit and Jacob Castro (UC Irvine) hit an RBI-single and the Barons scored once when Jaylen Heard (Heartland) doubled and scored later on a groundball out to make the score 6-5. Likewise, both teams were retired in order in the next inning and, in the ninth, the Oaks put the game away by scoring three runs on three singles and an error, while the Academy could only muster one run on a pair of doubles by Pollack and Matthew Elizalde (Loyola), who matched Lima with a game-high three hits.

Eli Riechmann struck out seven batters in four innings of relief pitching, Nickolas Pagan (Hartford) hit a bases loaded three-run double and Jacob Wyeth (Cisco JC) singled, doubled and scored twice to lead the Arroyo Seco Saints to a 6-3 win over the San Luis Obispo Blues tonight at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Riechamann entered the game to start the fourth inning in relief of Saints starter Drew Atherton (Cal Poly Pomona), who allowed two hits in three scoreless innings while striking out two, and Riechmann used the strikeout to strand two runners in the fourth inning, two strikeouts to end the fifth, one strikeout to start the sixth and struck out the side in the seventh. The only blemish to Riechmann’s outing was the solo home run he surrendered to Duke Pahukoa (UNLV) in the sixth inning that tied the score 1-1. Having scored once in the fifth inning when Wyeth led off with a single and scored on an error, the Saints scored four times in the sixth when the first five batters of the inning recorded hits, including Wyeth’s RBI-single and Pagan’s bases-clearing double to make the score 5-1. San Luis added one run in the eighth inning on an RBI-single by Hunter Swift (Oral Roberts), which the Saints answered in their half of the inning on a run scoring single by Thomas Luevano (USD), and the Blues added one more in the ninth when Ryan Cole (Notre Dame) hit a leadoff single and scored on an RBI-groundout to post the final score. Pierson Ohl (Grand Canyon) started on the mound for the Blues, pitching three scoreless innings while allowing only one hit and striking out three, but did not figure in the decision. Mitchell Scott (Cal), who relieved Ohl to start the fourth inning, also struck out three in his two-inning stint. Michael Garza (Incarnate Word) pitched the final two innings for Arroyo Seco, striking out four while allowing two runs on four hits.

Presno’s slam was the topper in the Foresters 12-hit attack, coming with two outs in the ninth inning, but it was his triple in the fourth that put Santa Barbara ahead for good. Trailing 1-0 early after Raul Sandoval (Oxnard JC) hit a solo home run in the first inning for Conejo, the Foresters scored twice in the fourth, tying the game when Eric Kennedy (Texas) bunted his way on base, stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly. Presno’s triple came one out later and drove in Hall who had doubled to give Santa Barbara the lead. Hall doubled again in the sixth inning, driving in one to up the score to 3-1, and Connor Pavolony (Tennessee) hit a two-out RBI-single in the eighth to make it 4-1. The Foresters blew the game open in the ninth inning on three walks, two singles, including Hall’s third RBI of the game, and Presno’s home run to put the game away. Isaac Coffey (Oral Roberts) started on the mound for Santa Barbara, notching six strikeouts in four innings of work. After allowing three hits and a walk in his first inning, Coffey settled in and retired nine of the next ten batters he faced. Dylan Kelley (SBCC) and Christian Winston (San Diego State) were the first two relievers in after Coffey, and each retired the three batters they faced in order, both with two strikeouts. Then Nico O’Donnell (Texas) pitched two innings, retiring six of seven while striking out two and Brad Demco closed out the ninth inning with two more strikeouts.

Andre Antone (UC Irvine) hit a home run and a pair of RBI-singles, Caleb Denny (Arkansas) and Antonio Cruz (Rice) each hit two-run doubles, Tyler Booth pitched five innings of one-hit ball and Noah Walker (Texas St) struck out four in the last two innings to lead the Orange County Riptide to a 10-4 win over the Arroyo Seco Saints tonight at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Antone started and ended the Riptide scoring tonight, driving in the first run of the game with a two-out single in the first inning, and driving in the last run of the game with another two-out single in the eighth. His first hit, which drove in Cason Matthews (BYU), who had led off the game with a single, ignited a five-run two-out rally for Orange County in which Denny and Cruz both notched their two-run doubles. After the Saints got on the board by scoring an unearned run in the second inning on two errors, Antone led off the third inning with a solo home run to up the lead back to five, 6-1. The unearned run was the only blemish on Booth’s five-inning start. He pitched around three walk during his outing and, except for the two errors that allowed the one run to cross the plate, was never threatened and left the game leading 8-1 after the Riptide added two more runs in the fourth inning when Matthews again led off with a single, scored on a Blake Evans (Georgia Southern) single and an error allowed Evans to score. After Matthews walked and scored for the third time on a groundout in the sixth, Arroyo Seco managed a pair of runs in their half of the inning on three singles, including an RBI-variety by Oscar Serratos (Georgia Tech), and a sacrifice fly, and one run in the seventh via a walk and a fielder’s choice. Walker came on the pitch the last two innings for the Riptide and squelched any thought of a Saints rally. He struck out the first two batters he faced and the last two he faced to close out the win.

Ruben Mercado (San Jose St) hit an RBI-triple and TJ Rumfield (Texas Tech) hit a run-scoring double to lead a six-run rally in the fifth inning and break open a one-run game as the San Luis Obispo Blues beat the Academy Barons 9-2 tonight at the MLB Youth Academy. Mercado’s triple tied the scored 2-2 after the Barons had scored a run in their first at bat on an RBI-single by Kyle Freeman (Pitzer College) and another in the third inning on an error and a wild pitch, and the Blues had scored once in the fourth when Taison Corio (Delta JC) singled and eventually scored on an error. Mercado’s triple also unhitched the Blue’s offense. Batting around in the inning, San Luis put seven runners on base via five hits and two walks, culminated by Rumfield’s double to score their six runs and put the score at 7-2. The Blues tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly and an RBI-single by Duke Pahukoa (UNLV). Brett Super (Pitzer College), the second reliever called upon by the Blues, entered the game in the seventh inning in relief of Noah Huerta (Texas Tech), who earned the win with three scoreless innings in relief of starter Dan Harrington (Columbia). Super pitched around a single to the first batter he faced in the seventh and then retired the next six batters in order before turning the ball over to Bradley Tews (Azusa Pacific), who pitched a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts to secure the win. Channy Ortiz (Grand Canyon) had two singles and scored twice to lead the Barons’ offense, while Trevor Sutt (Long Beach JC) pitched three scoreless innings to lead the Academy’s pitchers.

The Orange County Riptide scored four runs in their first at bat on a pair of two-run doubles by Andre Antone (UC Irvine) and Connor Aoki (Binghamton), Daniel Jung (Notre Dame) had four hits and Connor Aube (UT Arlington) scored three times to lead the Riptide to an 11-5 win over the Arroyo Seco Saints today at Great Park Stadium. Antone’s double, which came after Aube led off the inning with a single and two batters walked, and Aoki’s one out later, gave Orange County a lead they would not relinquish as five Orange County pitchers scattered seven Saints hits to allow only two earned runs while striking out a combined nine batters. After the Saints got on the board with a two-out, RBI-single by Thomas McCarthy (USF) in the second inning, the Riptide answered right back in their half when Aube doubled with one out, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI-groundout to make the score 5-1. Likewise, in the third inning, when Arroyo Seco scored a pair of runs on two errors and singles by Drew Cowley (Cal Poly Pomona) and Morgan Allen (St. Edward’s), Orange County answered with a pair of their own on two errors, Jung’s first hit of the game and an RBI-groundout. That pattern changed when the Riptide’s relivers corps entered the game. Justin Lewis (Texas Tech), who entered the game to pitch in the fourth inning in relief of Tanner King, pitched two scoreless innings, allowing only one baserunner; Andrew Beauvais (Pittsburgh) faced the minimum six batters, with the help of a runner caught stealing, in his two innings; and Colin Townsend (Saint Louis) pitched a scoreless eighth. Marrick Crouse, the fourth reliever of the game for the Riptide, allowed two runs, one earned, in the ninth inning when Nolan Tressler (Georgia Southern) and Luc Lipscius (Tennessee) singled and scored, but Crouse limited the damage by striking out two and closing out the win. On offense, Orange County added runs when Jung hit a ground-rule double in the fifth and scored on a Joshua Solomon (Columbia), when Carson Matthews (BYU) singled and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and when Matthews hit an RBI-double in the seventh.

Travis Parker (Utah Valley) struck out seven in a six-inning start, Zachary Patterson (Ohlone) reached base in all five of his plate appearances, scoring four times, and Andrew Buglino had two hits, including a two-run double, and a game-high three RBI to lead the Lincoln Potters to a 9-8 win over the Solano Mudcats today at Vanden High. Parker allowed only two hits in his outing, one a solo home run by Justin Banks (Coppin State), who also had three RBI in the game, to lead off the second inning, and closed out his stint by retiring the last eleven batters he faced in order, four via strikeout. The only blemish to Parker’s pitching performance was the lead off walk he issued to start the third inning, a runner that would eventually score on a Banks sacrifice fly. Patterson, who led all hitters with his three-hit day, started the scoring for Lincoln in the second inning when he led off with a double and scored the first of three runs when Nolan Young (Illinois St) drove him in with a single, and which Buglino followed with his double. With the score 3-1 heading into the third inning, Patterson singled home a run and Mattie Thomas (CSUN) hit an RBI-single to increase the lead. After Solano scored their two runs in the third, Patterson was hit by a pitch in consecutive at bats in the fifth and sixth inning and scored both times, first on an RBI-groundout by Buglino and, in the sixth, scoring from second on an error after stealing that base. Solano got to within striking distance in the seventh inning by scoring four times on an RBI-double by Eric Robles (Sterling College) and run scoring singles by Jack Pridy (Sonoma St) and Banks, but Tyler Mead held the Mudcats at bay for the next two innings, allowing one run in the ninth inning on an RBI-double by James Harwell (Sonoma St), and stranding the bases loaded to save the win for Lincoln.

Ben Martz (UC Santa Barbara) hit a pinch-hit run-scoring walk-off single with the bases loaded and no outs in the tenth inning as the Santa Barbara Foresters chased down an early 3-0 deficit to the Conejo Oaks to win 4-3. Martz’ dramatic hit came after the Foresters loaded the bases on a leadoff walk and two sacrifice bunts that turned into hits. The walk-off win was the culmination of a game-long effort to hold the Oaks at bay long enough for the Foresters offense. Conejo scored three times in their first two at bats, twice in the first inning on a two-out, two-un single by Ramon Gomez (Oklahoma Baptist), and once on a solo home run in the second by Trent MacKinney (Glendale CC). All three Conejo runs came off of Foresters starting pitcher Cole Quintanilla (Texas), who pitched around a leadoff single in the third inning to avoid any further damage and then turned the pitching duties over to the Santa Barbara bullpen. Five Santa Barbara relievers combined to hold the Oaks scoreless over the next seven innings, allowing only two hits and a total of five baserunners, two of which were erased on the bases, while striking out a combined 12 batters to totally shut down the Oaks offense. Travis Weston and Reece Matheisen (Glendale JC), the first two pitchers of the game for the Oaks, held the Foresters in check for most of their combined seven-inning, seven-strikeout performance. The only blemish to their outing was a two-out RBI-double by Tommy Holguin (SBCC) in the sixth inning which put Santa Barbara on the board, trailing 3-1. Ross Cadena (Wichita State) tied the game for the Foresters with a two-run home run in the eighth inning, and both teams managed to get a runner in scoring position in the ninth, but neither team scored, setting up the extra inning walk-off.

Trent MacKinney (Glendale JC) doubled to lead off the tenth inning of a 6-6 game and scored on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Raul Sandoval (Oxnrd JC) to give the Conejo Oaks a 7-6 comeback win over the Arroyo Seco Saints today at Sparky Anderson Field. MacKinney’s double, his third hit of the game, set up a comeback that saw the Oaks chase down a six-run deficit before they even came to bat. The Saints had scored six runs in the top of the first inning on six hits, including a two-out, two-run double by Jacob Wyeth (Cisco JC), who matched MacKinney with a game-high three hits. All of the Saints runs came against Oaks starting pitcher Matthew Strother (UC Santa Barbara), who managed to get through the inning but turned the pitching duties from there over to the Conejo relievers. And what a job the relievers did. Four relievers, Noah Mattera (UNLV), Charlie Beilenson (Brown), Jacob Flores (San Diego St) and Carson Carter (Texas Tech) held the Saints in check, throwing a combined nine shutout innings on five hits and six strikeouts. Conejo got their first run of their comeback right away in the first inning when Tyler Odekirk (Cal St LA) led off with a single and scored from first on Ryne Yamashiro (Cal Lutheran) two-out double. The Oaks managed to get runners on base in every inning off of Saints starting pitcher Hayden Harris (Georgia Southern) and their first reliever, Michael Hendricks (Lee), but didn’t score again until the sixth inning when MacKinney drove in a run with a groundball and Gabe Baldovino (Ventura JC) hit a two-out RBI-single to make the score 6-3. The Oaks tied the game in the seventh inning after Steele Ledford (UC Santa Barbara) hit an RBI-double and, with the bases loaded and two outs, MacKinney picked up his second and third RBI of the game with a single. Both teams went quietly in the eighth inning and stranded runners in the ninth to send the game into extra innings. Arroyo Seco got their leadoff batter on base via a walk, but Carter retired the next three batters he faced, two via strikeout to set up the walk-off dramatics in the bottom of the tenth.

Zach Bushling, who entered the game late for Lincoln, was a perfect three-for-three, hit a solo home run in his first at bat and added a pair of RBI-singles to finish with four RBI, while Zachary Patterson (Ohlone), Kana’kai Gaughan (MS Valley St), Matt Lopez and Anders Green each collected two-run doubles, among other hits, to lead the Potters.

Basiel Williams Jr. (Jones JC) drove in what proved to be the winning run with a two-out triple in the seventh inning and JP Massey (Minnesota) locked down the win by pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth innings to lead the Academy Barons to a 5-4 win over the Orange County Riptide today at the MLB Youth Academy. Williams’ triple, which drove in Trent Anderson, who had reached on an error, retook the lead from the Riptide who had scored twice in top of the inning on an RBI-double by Dylan Rock (UTSA) and a run scoring single by Andre Antone (UC Irvine) which tied the game briefly. Orange County claimed the first lead in the game when Connor Aoki (Binghamton) led off the third inning with a home run, but the Academy scored four times in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run single by Jair Donovan (Concordia), a bases-loaded error and a two-out single by Cristian Poche (New Orleans) to make the score 4-1. The Riptide added one more in the fifth inning on two walks and two hit batsmen issued by Brandon Mitchell, who entered the game to begin the inning in relief of Barons starting pitcher Julian Jackson (Eastern Kentucky) who struck out four in four innings of work. Nikelle Galatas (Jackson St) came into the game for the Academy and recorded the final out in the fifth inning to limit the damage, then retired the side in order before turning the pitching duties over to Travis Lavendier in the seventh, and Massey’s lockdown innings later on. Ricky Reynoso (Pacific) was the starting pitcher for Orange County, compiling seven strikeouts in three-plus innings before turning the pitching over to Wesley Scott (Vanderbilt), who pitched two and two-thirds innings of hitless ball while striking out five. Cole Samuels (St Louis) was on the mound for Orange County when Williams hit his triple in the seventh inning and suffered the loss.

Anders Green drove in three runs on two doubles, Matt Lopez (Sierra JC) collected three hits and three RBI, Zachary Patterson (Ohlone) hit a two-run home run and Lorenzo Debrecht (Sierra JC) hit a two-out RBI-double to drive in what would prove to be the winning run in the eighth inning as the Lincoln Potters beat the Solano Mudcats 6-5 tonight at Vanden High. Green’s two doubles came in his first two at bats tonight and each came with two outs in the inning. In fact, all six of Lincolns runs scored with two outs. The first double by Green scored Lopez, who had doubled just before him in the first inning to give the Potters a 1-0 lead. His second double in the third inning scored two more when Larry Fonseca reached base after being hit by a pitch and Lopez singled. Then Patterson drove Green in with a home run to give Lincoln a 5-1 lead. Solano, which had scored once in the second inning on an Eric Robles (Sterling College) RBI-single, added a run in their half of the third when Angelo Zorn (Occidental) led off with a double and scored on two-out single by James Harwell (Sonoma St), and added another in the fourth inning, when Nik Dodson hit a solo home run to put the score at 5-3. Keith Walker (Yuba JC), who came in to pitch for Lincoln in the fifth inning in relief of starter Isaiah Rodriguez (William Jessup), pitched two scoreless innings to hold Solano in check before turning the pitching duties over to Ian Miller (Yakima Valley JC) and Luke Hargis (Grand Valley St) who each allowed one run but, because of Debrecht’s clutch hit in the eighth inning, were good enough to save the win for Lincoln. Brandon Chalk started on the mound for Solano, striking out five in five innings of work, but allowed five runs, all earned, on six hits and suffered the loss. Billy Babb (Sonoma St) struck out three in three innings of relief of Chalk, but was on the mound when Debrecht got his hit.

and Chris Burnette (Cal Poly Pomona) combined for eight strikeouts over five scoreless innings of relief pitching, Drew Cowley (Cal Poly Pomona) hit an RBI-double, a single and scored twice, and Nolan Tressler (Georgia Southern) doubled and singled twice to lead the Arroyo Seco Saints to a 5-2 win over the Conejo Oaks tonight at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Reichmann, who entered the game in relief of Saints starter Colin King (Regis), struck out three batters to work around a walk in the fifth inning, pitched around a single in the sixth with one strikeout and pitched around a single and walk in the seventh with another strikeout. Likewise, Burnette used the strikeout to avoid giving up any runs, striking out two after allowing a walk in the eighth, and closing out the win with a strikeout in the ninth after allowing a two-out single. Cowley’s double drove in the first run of the game in the third inning and, after the Oaks took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Ryne Yamashiro (Cal Lutheran) hit a two-out two-run home run and the Saints tied it in the fifth on singles by Nickolas Pagan (Hartford) and David Reyna (Ark-Monticello), Cowley started things off again in the sixth. He and Tressler both singled to lead off the inning and both scored to give Arroyo Seco a 4-2 lead, Cowley scoring on an error and Tressler scoring on a groundout. Cowley got on base via a walk to lead off the eighth inning and eventually scored on another Oaks error to post the final 5-2 score.

Ian Villers (Cal)
struck out ten batters in a four-inning start, Chris Joaquim (UNLV) stuck out four in two innings, Griffin Hattingh struck out two in one inning of work, and Devin Kirby recorded all six outs in the two innings he worked via the strikeout to lead the Healdsburg Prune Packers to a 8-2 win over the San Francisco Seals tonight at Alameda College. It was a remarkable 22-strikeout performance for the Healdsburg pitchers who recorded only two outs on groundballs, one on a pop up to the infield, one on fly ball to the outfield and one on a runner caught stealing. The only blemish on the outing came in the seventh inning when Hattingh hit one batter and walked two to load the bases before allowing a Marty Cole (Niagara) two-out, two-run single. Hattingh struck out the last batter he faced to end the threat and then turned the pitching duties over to Kirby who pitched around a single in the eighth by striking out three, and working around a leadoff walk in the ninth by striking out the next three batters he faced. Villers and Jaoquim were equally as strikeout dominant in their outings tonight. At one point, Villers struck out six batters in a row, and had three strikeouts in three of his four innings. Joaquim faced the minimum six batters in his two inning relief of Villers and struck out the last four he faced. On offense, the Packers got on the board via a solo home run in the second inning by Bryson Hill (Houston), and then added two more runs in the fourth on RBI-singles by Hill and Travis Turney (Portland). Turney singled and scored in the seventh inning, Cole Brodnansky (UConn) doubled and scored in the eighth, and the Packers put the game away in the ninth, scoring four runs on four hit batsmen, a walk and Bryan Sturges’ (UTSA) fourth single of the game to post the final 8-2 margin. Will Moscato (Macalester) started on the mound for the Seals and notched an impressive eight strikeouts in six innings, but allowed three runs on six hits to suffer the loss.

Jakob Frederick (San Joaquin JC) struck out six batters over four innings, Tyler Cochran struck out four over three innings, and Nolan Murphy (William Jessup) and Tyler Mead each pitched a scoreless, hitless inning to lead the Lincoln Potters to a 4-3 win over the Solano Mudcats tonight at Vanden High. Frederick started on the mound tonight for Lincoln and cruised through the first three innings, allowing only a one out single in the second and a one-double by Wellington Balsley (Solano JC) in the third, before running into trouble in the fourth. At that point, the Potters had already posted all the runs they would generate in the game, scoring two unearned runs on one hit in the second inning and two more unearned runs on two hits in the third to give Frederick a 4-0 lead. Solano rallied against Frederick in the fourth when Justin Banks (Coppin State) led off with a single, Jack Pridy (Sonoma St) doubled, and a hit batsman all reached base before and out was recorded, and all would score with Balsley collecting a two-out RBI with a single to make the score 4-3. Frederick struck out the last batter of the inning to limit the damage, however, and then turned the pitching duties over to the three relief pitchers who faced the minimum 15 batters the rest of the way. Cochran was dominant, not allowing a ball out of the infield over three innings while striking out four of the nine batters he faced. Both Murphy and Mead faced a little more adversity having each walked the leadoff hitter in the innings they pitched, but both benefitted from a double-play turned in by the defense behind them and closed out the Lincoln win. The pitching for Solano was as effective as Lincoln as starting pitcher Caleb Hill (Savannah St) and reliever Diego Ramirez (Occidental) did not allow an earned run but were skewered by four defensive errors. Hill did allow seven hits while striking out three in five and two-thirds innings, but Ramirez dealt, retiring nine of the ten batters he faced. The one player Ramirez allowed to reach via a walk in the eighth with the potential tying run, he picked off first base to eliminate the threat. Zachary Patterson (Ohlone), who collected two singles for Lincoln, joined Balsley as the only two hitters to post a multi-hit game.

Andy Garriola (Old Dominion) hit a two-out RBI-single in the seventh inning to break a 5-5 tie, and Jamie Robertson (Emory) and Zachary Griggs (UTSA) pitched through three innings with runners in scoring position to preserve the Arroyo Seco Saints 6-5 win over the San Luis Obispo Blues tonight at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Garriola’s big hit came the inning after the Blues scored four times to take the lead 5-4 on doubles by Nick Hansen and Julian Bury (Columbia) and RBI-singles by Reuben Mercado, Ryan Cole (Notre Dame) and Taison Corio (Delta JC). Garriola drove in Morgan Allen (St. Edward’s) with the go-ahead run in the seventh after Allen singled with a man aboard and a two-base error allowed the tying run to score and Allen to advance to third base. Garriola also drove in the first run of the game, hitting his first two-out single to drive in Justin Watari (New Mexico) who led off the bottom of the first inning with a single. The Blues tied the score in their next at bat when Brendan Kemps (Cuesta JC) hit a run-scoring single, only to have the Saints take the lead right back in their half of the inning, scoring twice on RBI-singles by Thomas McCarthy (USF) and David Reyna to make the score 3-2 Saints. That score remained until Allen tripled with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning and scored on a groundout to give the Arroyo Seco a 4-2 lead that would last until the Blues rally in the sixth which Robertson came into the game to stop. Entering with two outs and the bases loaded Robertson induced a ground ball out to end the threat. He then struck out the first two batters he faced and got a groundout with a runner on board in the seventh inning, and then pitched around a leadoff walk and a single in the eighth inning to preserve the one-run lead. Likewise, Griggs pitched around a leadoff single and a one-out walk to strand the tying and go-ahead runners on base in the ninth inning, striking out two to close out the win for the Saints. Noah Bullard, the third pitcher of the game for San Luis, pitched the last two innings, striking out four, but was saddled with the loss. Cole reached base all face plate appearances he had in the game, walking once and leading all hitters with four singles.
