The Academy Barons offense scored three times in the first inning today against the Conejo Oaks at the MLB Urban Youth Academy and then relied on pitching and defense the rest of the way in a 3-1 league win. For a team that has been making a habit of having games of double-digit runs and hits, the three-run first, capped by a Martin Teague (Hope Int) home run, made it look as offensive business as usual. But it turned out different for the Barons as they won their fifth game in a row, as pitchers Hunter Omana, Oscar Munoz (Bethesda) and Reece Buska combined on the mound to limit the Oaks to just the one run on six hits. See the boxscore/recap of Game 1 here. In the second game of the doubleheader, the Halos got RBI from seven different hitters and, with a five-run sixth inning that erased a 6-4 Blues lead, Halo relievers Brandon Ward, who picked up the win, and Taylor Campos (Ventura JC) , who earned the save, held the Blues scoreless over the last three innings to secure the sweep.
