Five Long Beach hitters had multiple-hit games tonight as the Legends beat the Academy Barons 11-6. Chris Williams (Clemson) had three hits and three RBI, John Montgomery (Eastern Michigan) added three RBI of his own on two hits, and Trevor Casanova (Lane JC) hit two doubles and scored three times to pace the Legends. Connor Mayes (Texas) dominated on the mound today for the Santa Barbara Foresters, striking out eight batters and allowing only one hit in six innings of work as the Foresters topped the Ventura Halos 5-1. The Neptune Beach Pearl and Menlo Park Legends needed extra innings to decide today’s CCL matchup between the two teams at Canada College, but it was over quick once the game got to extras as the Pearl scored three runs on four hits in the top of the 10th inning to win 8-5. Ventura, CA

The Ventura Halos scored three runs in their last two at bats today to beat the San Luis Obispo Blues 5-4 in a CCL matchup at Ventura College. Ben Skinner (Harvard) drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a two out double in the eighth. Also for the Halos, Nic Bereaud hit a run-scoring triple in the second and Cody Phillips (Princeton) had three hits. See the boxscore/recap here.

The Santa Barbara Foresters scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning and held off the Conejo Oaks for the last three outs to avoid their fourth straight league loss with a 6-5 win today at Sparky Anderson Field. Colby Barrick (UCSB) drove in the tying run in the ninth and then scored the game winner on a single by Bret Boswell (Texas). Boswell drove in two runs on the day and had three hits, and Trevor Abrams (Sonoma State) also had two RBI, one coming on his first home run of the season. See the boxscore/recap here.

Playing their fifth game in three days the Southern California Catch showed no signs of weakness as they swept a CCL doubleheader on the road today at Concordia University, beating the Orange County Riptide 6-3 and 6-2. Nate Pecoda (William Jewel) hit a two-out two-run single in the sixth inning to lead the Catch in the first game, and Josh Rojas (Hawaii) and Zach Malis (Grand Canyon) each had two RBI to lead the Catch in the second game.

Redwood City, CA

Each time Menlo Park’s Turner Bishop (Old Dominion) came to bat in today’s game against the Walnut Creek Crawdads there were runners in scoring position, and each time Bishop found a way to drive the runs in. Finishing the game with seven RBI, Bishop had a run-scoring double in the second, a sacrifice fly in the third and fourth innings, and then a bases loaded triple in the fifth to plate three more. It was a standout performance that may have gone unnoticed today because just about every Menlo Park hitter was driving in runs as the Legends pounded the Crawdads 21-1 at Canada College. The Legends also got great offensive performances from Sean Watkins (4-for-5, 3 RBI), Justin Jacobs (Gonzaga) (2-for-4, 3 RBI) and Patrick McColl (Harvard) (2-for-4, 3 RBI), and starting pitcher Tanner Disibio (Faulkner) pitched five innings of one-hit ball to pick up the win. The Conejo Oaks handed the Santa Barbara Foresters their third straight league defeat today at Sparky Anderson Field, scoring twice on Foresters’ errors to win 2-1. Four Oaks pitchers combined to hold the Foresters in check, scattering seven hits and striking out seven. Isaiah Campbell (Arkansas) started the game with five shutout innings to pick up the win. The Southern California Catch and the Ventura Halos split a doubleheader today at Ventura College with identical scores. The Catch took the first game 7-3 and the Halos turned the tables and beat the Catch 7-3 in the second game. Stats for these games were not available at post time.

La Mirada, CA

Nick Cumpston (Eastern Kentucky) pitched six innings of one-hit ball today at Biola University, striking out seven to lead the Southern California Catch to a 7-1 win over the Santa Barbara Foresters. The Catch managed to score runs in each of the first six innings and got multiple-hit games from Jeff Murray (Santa Ana JC), Zach Malis (Grand Canyon) and Caleb Potter (West Virginia). One of Murray’s hits was a solo home run in the second inning. Today’s result marks the third loss in four league games for the Foresters. See the boxscore/recap here.

The Orange County Riptide offense exploded tonight at the MLB Urban Youth Academy amassing 15 runs on 21 hits as the Riptide beat the Academy Barons 15-7 in CCL action. Dillon Kelley (Chico State) led the Riptide with a perfect six hits in six at bats, including a home run and three RBI. Ray Land (Concordia) also had a big night, collecting four RBI on three hits. The game’s end result does not indicate how close it was played. In fact, the Barons had a 5-2 lead after the 1st inning and the two teams were tied 7-7 going into the ninth inning, but the Riptide scored eight times in the ninth and put the game out of the Barons reach. The Healdsburg Prune Packers took the third and deciding game of their series against the Santa Barbara Foresters, winning 8-7 at Westmont College. Jake Steiner (Santa Rosa JC) and Dan James (USF) each hit home runs for the Pakcers, with James’s coming with two-out and nobody on in the ninth inning, which proved to be the winning margin. The Foresters threatened in the bottom of the ninth, putting the tying and winning run in scoring position with one out, but Packers reliever Anthony Bender (Northridge) got a strikeout and a ground out to save the win. Bret Boswell (Texas) homered for the Foresters for the second game in a row and teammate Trevor Abrams (Sonoma State) had four hits. See the boxscore/recap here.

Kyle Johnston (Texas) had six strikeouts over five-plus innings to pick up the win. Billy Wilson (LMU) had two hits for Healdsburg, including a lead-off home run to start the game. The San Luis Obispo Blues amassed 16 hits in eight at bats to overwhelm the Walnut Creek Crawdads today at Sinsheimer Park. Led by Wyatt Hogan’s (Hendrix College) four hits and four RBI, the Blues scored six times in the fifth inning to break open a 1-1 deadlock, then added three more runs in the sixth inning to put the game away 12-3. The Ventura Halos swept a doubleheader from the Long Beach Legends in the first league contests for both teams at Ventura College today, winning the first game 2-1 and the second 8-2. Long Beach threatened in their last at bat, loading the bases on three walks, but Caden Maher (N. Trailing 9-1 going into the bottom half of the seventh inning the San Luis Obispo Blues erupted for 6 runs in the seventh and then added five more in the eighth to take the second contest of a three-game series against the visiting Walnut Creek Crawdads 12-9. After the first two batters in the seventh inning failed to get on, the Blues strung together four consecutive hits, followed by three straight walks, then one more hit to score six runs and get within striking distance. Then, in the bottom of the eight, the Blues offense batted-around again, scoring five runs and securing the win. Not to be lost in the offensive outburst was the relief pitching of Justin Goosen-Brown, who pitched the final 4 2/3 innings for the Blues to pick up the win, allowing only 1 hit while striking out eight. Jaiden France (Grambling St) was the man tonight for the SoCal Catch, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning to break an 8-8 tie against the Palm Springs Power and, when the Power threatened to erase that extra-inning lead, France came into the game to pitch mid-inning with two runners on and no outs and retired three of the four batters he faced to pick up the save in an 10-9 win.
