June 8, 2017 - Oakland, CA Casey Douglas (Kansas) and Justin Smith (Yuba College) used the strikeout to keep the opposing hitters at bay, and Jordan Williams (Diablo Valley JC) and Matthew Miller (Georgia College) led the offense as the Neptune Beach Pearl beat the Walnut Creek Crawdads 5-4 today at Laney College. While not completely dominating from the mound by allowing 10 Crawdad hits, Douglas and Smith combined for ten strikeouts in the game when they needed them, including Douglas striking out the side in the second inning and Smith fanning two in each of his three innings of relief. On the offensive side, Tim Lichty (Texas A&M) and Miller each doubled and singled, with William's one out double in the seventh to drive in Miller, who had doubled earlier in the inning, being the game winner. John Ballard (Colorado Mesa) led all hitters with three hits, including one of the Crawdads four doubles in the game, to lead Walnut Creek.
